Hey friends, as I was sitting out on my deck the other day, I realized I hadn’t shared my cozy deck space yet with you all. It’s not a large deck but my backyard is a bit of a fish bowl so I wanted a place I could relax that offered some privacy. I wanted a cozy deck oasis where I could hang with the family and take an occasional nap once and awhile without anyone watching me drool, ha! Now keep in mind that I’m not a designer but I still wanted to share with you because I’m happy with how it turned out and I think I accomplished my goal 🙂
I believe our deck is about 12 feet by 12 feet. This year we added a sun shelter (on sale from Canadian Tire) and it’s made all the difference to anchoring the space and making it feel super cozy. I like to call it my outdoor living room. The sun shelter is only 8 by 8 feet but it needed to be that small so the back door could swing open without hitting it.
Having the sun shelter allows me a place to hang some curtains. This not only adds some really great privacy but also provides some additional sun protection as well when it gets too hot. The curtains are actually inexpensive water resistant shower curtains I purchased from London Drugs. The shower curtain rings are just metal ring ones from the dollar store. When the curtains are not in use I simply tie them back with cute butterfly hair clips also purchased from the dollar store. I know you can buy enclosure screens for these sun shelters but I didn’t want to close us in all the way. I think it would feel too small and this was a much less expensive option.
The deck overlooks the neighbor’s yards on either side of us so I also really wanted to add some privacy to the deck rails. I found and purchased the green striped privacy netting screen through eBay. Air can still travel through it but you cannot see through it at all. What a difference it has made!
My loveseat was purchased from Canadian Tire on an end of season sale a few years ago. The two chairs are from Walmart this year and were $30 each.
This gorgeous teal blue stool/end table is from Lowes as are the two lovely watercolor pillows on the loveseat. Pillows are such an easy way to add color and coziness to a space.
And of course flowers help set the mood as well. I love having beautiful colorful flowers around me while I’m relaxing on the deck.

We play a lot of cards outside on this coffee table. Euchre is one of my favorites!
And of course every great space needs some organization. This small deck box is perfect for holding extra pillows, a cozy blanket, my lantern, citronella candles and bug spray. It also provides additional seating if necessary.
Also snacks are always a good idea. Anyone up for some fresh raspberries?
Another big benefit of the sun shelter is being able to add little lights to the inside for when the sun goes down. So pretty at night.
I do hope you enjoyed this little tour of my private & cozy deck oasis and maybe it also gave you a few ideas for your own space. And yep I do enjoy a nap right there on that loveseat every chance I get 🙂
Ahh summer, I love you!
Hope you are all having a fantastic summer!! Don’t forget to take some time to enjoy the beauty in the everyday and the simple pleasures all around us 🙂

This looks amazing and so cosy!! I love the shower curtain idea! We’re getting some decking built in a couple of weeks – this has definitely given me some ideas of how we can create a really lovely outdoor “room”. Now all we need over here is some sunnier weather! Xx

You did a great job. Love all the pops of color you have. You inspire me to work on mine this weekend. One question!!!! How do you keep it so clean??? My back porch always has spiderwebs. Drives me crazy.
