Reorganization Motivation to Lift Your Organizing Spirits

The following is a guest post on reorganization motivation from regular contributor, Rachel at Useful Beautiful Home.

I’ve tried writing this post several times and it didn’t feel right until today.  I had a hard time justifying such a simple project until I realized it speaks from my heart; a heart that loves to bless and encourage others in their endeavors.

Let me explain, I reorganized a caddy recently and was genuinely glad to have knocked that little project off my list.  It was easy, took very little time, and cost me nothing.  Yet, it had great reward in both decreased clutter and improved function.  Tremendously huge overhauls are wonderful to read about and even accomplish in your own home, but sometimes we just want to do something little that will also cause a big impact.

That’s what I did with this caddy and I’m writing to share it as an encouragement to you. I’m highlighting this “little yet big” change to motivate your endeavors at home.  Read below and then go search around your home for a neglected yet simple project that will lift your organizing spirits and set a smile on your face for a job well done!

My project was a Christmas gift to my oldest daughter. She was given a caddy full of art supplies. It was a sweet gesture because the gift-giver knew my love of all-things-organized and had used a caddy to contain the many art pieces. Over the course of a few months, it began looking disheveled (see below pic). I kept eyeing it, knowing a few simple changes would make a world of difference.

One day, motivation set in and I fixed what had been irking me for days.  Armed with a few plastic cups to help things look more tidy, I set to work.  By the way, disposable plastic cups are an inexpensive resource to organize colored pencils and markers, and they come in almost any size needed.  It was the most basic addition with an impressive impact.

I started by completely emptying the caddy, as Laura has told us many times in her PROCESS steps.

While doing that, I found plenty of non-art items.  It was also a good opportunity to quickly clean out the stray toys that had wandered into the caddy.  Then, I reconfigured and replaced all the supplies until everything fit.

See, I told you it was simple and nearly free but the improvement made my heart happy.  Before, when the caddy was overstuffed and cluttered, we couldn’t see the handlebar.  Now, it’s easy to find the handle without getting stabbed by a rouge pencil or misplaced scissors.  The caddy works as intended and is visually much more enjoyable.

So, yes, it’s a little project but I hope with all my heart you find it inspiring.  Maybe your own art supplies need a quick clean and reshuffle.  Or, maybe you have another small project you needed today’s simple nudge to get ‘er done.  Regardless, I hope this encourages and motivates you where needed to end this week in organized style!!!
