The following closet tip is a guest post from regular contributor, Kristin at The Gold Project.
One simple change can make a world of difference when organizing. And, that is exactly what happened in my closet a few weeks ago. After doing some cleaning out and reorganizing in my house, I had an extra white basket that needed a new purpose. I decided to sit it in the bottom of my closet to use as a donation bin.
I had used a white garbage bag a while back for the same purpose, but somehow I felt it wasn’t doing the job. I am not sure if it was because I couldn’t see what I was putting in the bag or if it kept getting lost in my closet. So, I decided to choose a basket to use instead.
As I am picking out clothes to wear in the mornings, anything that I decide I do not want or like goes in the basket. These items can include pieces that do not fit anymore, ones that are outdated, stained, or items that I just do not think look good on me. Once the basket is completely full, I will take those items to be donated.
So far, it is making a big difference. I have only had the basket sitting in my closet two weeks and I have already accumulated five pieces of clothing.
I think it is important to go through and evaluate your clothing often. If you have clothing that you do not plan on wearing hanging with everything else, getting dressed can take a lot longer. Why? Because you are having to go through all of the clothing items you don’t like or want to get to the ones that you do.
The basket approach to letting go of items may not be the best solution for you and your closet, but find something that works for you. A garbage bag may work better for you even though it didn’t for me. One small change can make a huge difference. And, I have found that letting go feels so satisfying in the end.
Is there one simple organizing change that you have made in your household that has made a huge difference? I would love to hear all about them because it could help everyone in the end.
My name is Kristin and I am a middle school career education teacher by day and a mommy/wife/blogger by night. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have two loving children. We recently made a life-changing move to Arkansas, so our new house is always under construction. I get excitement out of finding new creative, functional, and cute ways to organize things! I also enjoy writing and documenting life as it happens. So, I put these loves together and created The Gold Project. With the help of my husband, I am attempting to turn our house into a home. So, check out this special place of mine and take this journey with me!
