The following is a guest post from regular contributor, Yuni at Love Your Abode.
It’s no surprise, I have a love for baskets, trays, and containers when it comes to decor and organization. I find them especially functional when it comes to organizing foods in the refrigerator.
One of my favorite ways to organize the refrigerator is to group similar items into one basket or container. Since we pack sandwiches most weeknights for school and work, keeping all the sandwich making ingredients in one basket has been such a time saver. No more taking out items one by one and looking for that mayonnaise hiding all the way in the back of the fridge. The deli meats, cheese, and all the condiments are situated in one container which makes for easy access. Since we pack lunches every night, I appreciate efficient methods that make this chore go a little easier and quicker.
We do the same thing for the breakfast spreads like the peanut and almond butter and all of the jellies.
We like to keep all of the yogurt in one basket as well.
I just used dollar store bins and they have worked great for our family. Organization doesn’t have to be expensive.
In the drawer, I use smaller bins to hold dressings, sauces, butters, cream cheese, and my half eaten dark chocolates! I love how everything has it’s place so we can find what we need in the drawer. Another great idea is putting pre-packaged snacks, juice boxes, and fruits in the baskets. They make it easier for kids to grab afternoon snacks or help pack their own lunches.
An organized fridge makes this mama really happy! Hope you found this tip helpful. Do you use baskets and containers in your refrigerator?

Bonus fridge tip from Laura:
Use inexpensive placemats from the dollar store to line your fridge for easy clean up!

I love the first photo. I am obsessed with clear plastic containers though. I really like to see what I am looking for in the fridge.
We have a very slim Sub Zero that is the nearly the size of an apartment refrigerator. It is so difficult to keep organized, especially if your kids are condiment freaks. lol
I am having lots of luck finding organizing bins at Homegoods.
Thanks for sharing.

Yes I like clear bins myself too and have been lucky finding them at Winners (which is similar to Homegoods here in Canada).
Rosemary says
Doesn’t the use of placemats affect the air circulation and therefore the ability of your refrigerator to keep food cold. It might have to work harder to keep food cold with the placemats and storage containers.
Laura Wittmann says
I’ve not noticed a difference Rosemary but the placemats are only covering the glass and not blocking any openings.

I’ve never thought of baskets but I do have a small lazy susan in my fridge. I keep certain items on it so I can spin them around and pick what I need. I think I’d need clear, see-through baskets so I wouldn’t forget what’s in each basket. It’s something to think about

I use a lazy susan in my fridge too, love them!!

We tend to store things in the same place all the time…..it’s helpful when you have a french door refrigerator to know the mayo is on the right hand side. 🙂
One thing I love about your blog, Laura, is that you tell right upfront when it’s a guest post. I hate reading a blog and thinking it’s the regular author and then finding out it’s not. For example, the author might talk about their new house and I’m always thinking, “What? She moved? How did I miss that?”
Laura Wittmann says
Hi Barb, I’m a huge blog reader myself and I will tell you that it drives me nutso too not to know when it’s a guest post until the end. So that’s why I make a point of saying so right up front. I’m so glad I’m not the only one!
