Hi beautiful lovely people, happy Friday to you! The weekend is here, yay! My kids have a four day weekend (Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends!) and we are going to RELAX…right after we spend some time today getting all the chores done of course 🙂 Yep I love having a clean and organized house going into a weekend!
So this past week my sweet friend Mridu, from Life is Organized, and I chatted together on Skype about all things organizing. Oh my goodness was it ever fun. I’m not yet sure when she’ll have that up but I will definitely link to it here when it does go live. If you are looking for some rock solid organizing motivation you need to check out Mridu’s Youtube channel. She is fun and funny and really just awesome. Here’s a great video with a quick tip to prevent clutter.
My world was also rocked this past week by learning from this post that when typing there should only be one space after a period and not two between sentences. Umm what? I have almost ten years of blog posts compiled on this here blog featuring TWO spaces after every single period and I am just finding out now that I’ve been doing it all wrong. What in the world? And now I’m trying to correct the error of my ways but it is so hard. See I just naturally want to put two spaces. I can’t help myself. But I’d like to only do one. I kind of like it. Are you a one or two space kind of person?

I love Evelyn’s take on minimalism in this post on her blog Smallish about how minimalism is so much more than mere limitation of physical belongings. I couldn’t agree more!

Laura, thanks for featuring my post. What a lovely surprise as I enter the weekend 🙂
Also, I’ve always put one space after a full stop (as we call a “period”). That’s the way I learned to type…. um….23 years ago!

Wow we were always taught to use 2 spaces, it’s killing me!! 🙂

I recently heard about this “single space after a period” thing and….I can’t do it. It’s been hammered into my head for so many decades to use 2 spaces that I just…. can’t! I’ve actively tried but my hands just automatically hit that space bar twice. I did it just there! ACK!

Oh I’m so glad I’m not alone. I am having such a hard time with this whole concept, ack!!

I still use two spaces when typing. I’m planning to keep doing it. 🙂

I should add that I’ve seen just as many well reasoned arguments for keeping two spaces between sentences. Personally, I prefer two, and I think that flow is better for me. I could probably get used to either way. I think it’s one of those little things that only a few detail oriented people in certain occupations really notice.

I don’t get who in their right mind would chose to be a minimalist. I get the concept of getting rid of stuff you don’t need anymore but minimalist is going way beyond that point.
I could never and will never do it. I collect video games and I have very few things in the way of extra games. The only ones I can think of are Luigi’s mansion 3ds that we had to check with about a dozen stores to find and Lego battles which holds a special place in my heart. You see, last year I went through a dental journey that has left me pretty traumatized and is something I regret every second of. A week after the lower extractions, we went on a 2 day mini trip and I found the game and minotaurs Lego board game bundle for 5 dollars. The board game was parted out and the game put on the side. When I see the sealed game, I am able to think of a happier time.
Then my Lego collection. I’ve got a medium/large sized collection and I’ve already offloaded almost all the extra bits. The only unneeded bits are bagged for the trade pile. Its impossible for me to get the amount down more then that since all I’d be doing is trading “unneeded” stuff for stuff I traded in since my interests chance so often. In a year I’ve gone from non specific to vehicles to small structures to Minecraft and now I’m on hiatus to focus on my video game hobby. Now I’m thinking about doing more to the mine i built. I took and built the mine from parts from my collection and added an extra layer and might add to the sides. Id like to see a minimalist do that.

Minimalism will look differently for everyone, there is no one set rule. To me it simply means living with what you NEED and love. That’s it!
