So I am well aware that I’m a bit of an odd duck. If you have been reading this blog for any length of time or know me in real life, I can totally see you nodding your head right now in agreement. Don’t even feel bad about it, it’s okay, I really am fine with my weirdness. I better be because I hear about it all the time 🙂 In fact, one of my girlfriends was just over visiting the other day and after opening my fridge she proclaimed once again to me, you know in case I’d somehow forgotten, that I am indeed a very weird girl. This is, of course, always followed up with “but that’s why we love you”. Ha! It takes one to know one, am I right?
Today’s post is in support of weirdness everywhere. I’ll go first and list three things about me that some may find odd but that make me ridiculously happy. Like way to happy than they probably should but it’s the simple things in life don’t you think? Then afterwards I want you, yes you, to share in the comments something about yourself that others might find weird but you really don’t care because it just makes you so happy. Weird is great and fun and should be celebrated at all times, whoot!!
1. I love to deadhead flowers.
Yep. Deadheading makes me very very happy.
I find it sooooo relaxing and really it just makes total sense because deadheading is all about the purging and getting rid of the old right?. Over and over and over again. You know which flowers need the most deadheading? Petunias. My favorite are the wave petunias because they multiply like crazy. Like every day. Purge, purge, purge. I just can’t stop!!
2. I love a pretty fridge.
Okay this is the one I probably get teased the most about but how often are we in and out of fridges? All day long so why not have it be fun to look at. I can’t believe I’ve never shared this before but then I read this post from my blog friend, Joanna at Pretty Life in the Suburbs, and saw that she also a pretty fridge and I was like we are KINDRED SPIRITS.
I just bought inexpensive placemats from Walmart and tacked them down with Scotch double sided restickable tabs. I only had to trim the placemats slightly to fit, really easy to do. And messes clean up super easy too. But that’s really beside the point, the point is LOOK HOW PRETTY! So happy!
3. I really love doing puzzles.
Seriously this one again totally ties in with the whole organizing JUNKIE thing. A puzzle starts out all messy and disorganized and the whole act of joining those little tiny pieces together leads to organization and beauty. What’s not to love about the whole thing??
This summer with my son (15) laid up with a broken foot the puzzles have been out in full force. He loves doing them as much as I do. So we’ve got a puzzle party going on around here….we leave one set up on the coffee table so we can organize puzzle whenever we want to 🙂 Sweet!
This is the current puzzle we are working on.
Now it’s your turn!
Embrace the weirdness and just shout it from the mountain tops one thing that makes you ridiculously happy but others give you a hard time about. Thanks for playing along 🙂

My 3 odd but happy items are:
1) Puzzles too!
2) to go cups… i find a new one very where I go.
3) Organizing a drawer….i buy or make more cubbies just to reorganize a drawer over and over.
Laura Wittmann says
I have a thing too for to go cups or reuseable water bottles, love them!! So weird!! 🙂
Whitney @ Come Home For Comfort says
I really enjoy ironing cloth napkins! It’s so rewarding to start with a stack of wrinkled linens and end up with a neat stack of freshly pressed ones! 🙂
Laura Wittmann says
Oh my from someone who hates to iron that is definitely weird lol. Love it!!
Michele says
Me, too! Ironing in general is very relaxing for me, and gives a sense of immediate accomplishment. My friends think I’m crazy, most of them don’t even own an iron!
Els says
Hi since a few months I know the feeling too. The relaxing feeling, the clean feeling, the organized feeling, also doing it the Konmari-style. So weird, I have been hating, really hating ironing for years. What happened? I turned 36. Is that it?
Mary says
You could be my child! ???? I love these things, too. Seriously, next time I am near someplace where there are pretty placemats my clean and neat fridge is getting some pizzazz!????
Laura Wittmann says
Send me a picture when you do. I would love to see it!!!
Shannon says
i love the fridge idea!! you’re right, we’re in and out all the time. great idea…totally going to use!
Laura Wittmann says
Yay!!
Natalie says
In my neck of the woods we call this “disproportionately happy” and for me it’s caused by hearing the New Order song Age of Consent. Any time. Any where. Also the scent of Playdoh.
Laura Wittmann says
Love it!!
Julie says
I LOVE to deadhead petunias too. My family laughs at me because if we hold still long enough I will start deadheading the ones in big pots outside of restaurants too. It’s my civic duty. 🙂
Laura Wittmann says
Oh my gosh I do that too!!!!!!
Kelly Palmer says
We must be kindred spirits because I too love to dead head things in our yard 🙂 I also like to pressure wash our driveway and sidewalk. It is monotonous but in some way very soothing and I use the time to day dream or pray. And the third thing would probably be to rewrite my to-do list before everything on it is actually accomplished because I don’t like the messiness of a list with messy scratch offs. So, it seems you aren’t so weird after all 🙂
Laura Wittmann says
Hahaha yep that’s weird! 🙂
Mridu Parikh says
Ok, that IS a beautiful fridge. Who’s ever thunk to do that?! :)) Love it! Thanks for sharing Laura. xo,m

I still like to color.I have at least fifty different coloring book and there is still nothing like a brand new box of crayons.
Laura Wittmann says
Hey Mary, I started a new coloring page tonight. So fun!!
Muriel says
I love playing board games.
Laura Wittmann says
Me too!! But I’m super competitive so it’s hard to find someone to play with me lol.
Leah says
You’re not wierd, you’re Limited Edition!
Laura Wittmann says
Nice!!
Gail says
I love to use the leaf blower on the driveway. We have a long concrete driveway with trees all around, so there’s always stuff on the driveway. I don’t do it often enough, but I love the instant gratification I think.
Laura Wittmann says
Well there’s something I’ve never done, but now I suddenly feel the need to!! 🙂
Molly says
I love playing Free Cell–played it consecutively when it was only 32,000 games. Now the consecutive order is too much trouble, so I just play the random ones, but still love it.
Jillian M. says
I really LOVE office supplies, like a lot! I love vacuuming, and the awesome lines you can see after doing it! I love sorting tiny things like colored bead or my son’s Lego mini figure bits.
Laura Wittmann says
That is awesome!!
Leslie says
Your dead-heading is my wild berry picking. Your fridge is astonishing – good for you! And I get transfixed by puzzles – so much so that I want my family to go away – so I don’t do them anymore! But cutting and pasting has got to be my all-time favourite. Call it collage, just pass me the magazines and scissors!
Laura Wittmann says
Oh that sounds relaxing!!
Lisa Diane Tummers says
I love to organize all of the little things: spices, drawers, doll accessories, cosmetics, toys with little parts, planner supplies. Oh, and I also love to organize closets: by color, season, sleeve length, and then, don’t get me started on accessory organizing…love!! And photos — I will stop now. I’ve more than proven my weirdness. 🙂
Laura Wittmann says
Those are great ones Lisa!!
Anna says
I love to deadhead too! It’s so hard to resist when I take walks, and I pass rosebushes that need attention.
Christy Greer says
I, too am a puzzle junkie. I have one in progress at all times during football season…men watch games while women puzzle and gab. I’m crazy about sorting Legos!
Marcia Francois says
Well, you know I am very odd myself 🙂
A few things (and Lord knows, there could be a lonnnnnng list):
1. I like all my money out of my account by payday (even if it means transferring it out and into my savings account)
2. I really didn’t think this one was strange but it turns out I’m the only person in the world who doesn’t do bulk shopping of any kind.
3. I’m crazy obsessed with doors – I have been known to pull over so I can take a photo of a beautiful door 🙂
Lori says
I, too, love office supplies and am giddy when the penny wars over back to school supplies starts. Even better us the smell of the office supply store. The scent of notebooks and pencils! Maybe it’s scotch tape scent. That’s even better…
Becky L says
Good thoughts on what you think is quirky. One of my quirks is having the blue side of my car’s sunshield facing out cuz it looks cool on my red car. (Other side is silver.) 2:popcorn that I can see on the floor near the register, where I work must be swept up asap by me. 3: I must have a napkin when eating a meal. At home or eating out. I like the fridge with placemats. Looks nice!! I enjoy your random posts like these. You are one of a kind, my friend!!

1. Puzzles, always loved them and thought I was the only person who did!
2. I have open shelves in my kitchen for my every day dishes and I love them but they have to be in the right spot. I’m always straightening after someone else unloads the dishwasher.
3. The fold of towels and wash clothes facing out on the shelf.
I’m so weird!
