Happy Tuesday friends! Today I want to share another great thrift store find with you that I picked up recently to organize my big kitchen drawer. This drawer holds all my bigger cooking utensils and nicer serving ware pieces. My most often used kitchen utensils are kept on my counter by the stove in my Pampered Chef Turnabout. I hadn’t organized my cooking utensils in awhile and while things were still controlled somewhat, I knew there were items in there that I no longer was using. It was time to give the space a little freshening up.
Before:
Now as I was doing the planning of the space (it’s the first part of the organizing PROCESS) I noticed that what I didn’t really like about the space was that the plastic baskets I was using were too big and things were just a big jumbled mess. I wanted some more separation with everything so I wasn’t having to dig through to find what I needed. So my goal was to introduce some smaller baskets to create more division.
The next step in the PROCESS is to remove everything out of the drawer. Yep dump it all out onto the floor. I also dumped out my turnabout as well. Might as well go through everything at once. Time for a sort and purge.
I tackled that pile with a vengeance and got rid of a whole pile of knives that were duplicates (we have a knife block on the counter). Some broken bits went to the garbage and a whole pile of random stuff was donated to the thrift store. I tried to keep just what we actually use on a regular basis.
While I was doing my weekly thrift store drop off, I decided to take a look inside to see if I could find something a little more practical to use in my drawer. I scored big time! I found these fantastic Rubbermaid bins, in different sizes, that all hook together to create different configurations. It’s like a puzzle fitting them together, so many possibilities! I’ve seen these organizers sold in Walmart and on Amazon for quite a bit of money but I found all the pieces I needed for 50 cents each at the thrift store for a total of $4.00. The largest piece alone at Walmart (16×5) costs $5.27 and on Amazon it’s $6.99. So to do my entire drawer at regular price would have been over $25.00. I saved $21.00, whoot! That’s just the way I like it!
Note: when I bought the organizers they were scuffed up with black marks. I washed them up and used a magic eraser on them and they came out like brand new.
Here is how my drawer looks now.
So much better and the new configuration solves what I was hoping it would. So next time you are on the look out for organizing bins and baskets, be sure to check out your local thrift store. You never know what you’ll find 🙂
Have you scored a terrific find for organizing drawers or other areas of your home at the thrift store lately?

Looks great! I need to organize my not-often-used utensil drawer too, in fact it’s on my “spring cleaning” list. Great find at the thrift store:)

Good tip to use the magic eraser.
