The following is a guest post from regular contributor, Shannon at AKA Design.
Hi Organizing Junkies! How have you been since I was last here?
What did you all think of our recent Box It Up? Do you remember the basic premise? Basically I’m going to take workaday items – things that are often necessary, but not always handy when needed – and create mini-kits to keep around the house. They don’t take up much room at all, but they come in real handy.
Of course, even better is that most of the items in each Box can be found at the dollar store!
This week’s Box is all about Notes – of the handwritten variety.
Handwritten notes may seem to be a thing of the past. But who doesn’t love receiving a thank you note or “thinking of you” the old fashioned way? I have a friend who is really good at this and I adore her for it.
Do you send little notes of encouragement to friends? Do you write a thank you card after your parents babysit so you can go out when your babysitter cancels?
I’m thinking we’d all be a bit more thoughtful if the tools to do so were organized and easy to find!
For a box full of handwritten notes goodness, include:
- Ink pad and stamps
- Something to record who you’ve sent notes to
- Embellishments (shown are paper flower stickers from Michael’s)
- Note cards and envelopes
- Postage stamps
- Pens or pencils
- Sticky notes in varying sized for little notes inside notes!
- Note paper
- Other embellishments like these chalkboard labels
You could also include:
- Colored markers
- Photos/portraits
- Business cards
Simply pack up your box (remember I just use cheap-o plastic shoe boxes found at The Home Depot!) and store in the kitchen or your home office. If you don’t have space in your kitchen or you don’t have a home office, buy a prettier lidded box and put it on an end table for super easy access!
This week’s challenge is to put together your Handwritten Notes Box and write one encouragement note to someone you’ve been thinking of or someone you need to thank … and then watch them smile!
xo,
Shannon

We did something similar to this several years ago in our Homeschool Etiquette Class. Instead of a box we use 4″ ring binders with zippered pockets.
It included two forms. One listed birthdays and anniversaries; the second provided space to record thank you notes that needed to be sent with a box to check when completed.
Just another option for those who may prefer notebooks over boxes.
This is a great idea, BTW. 🙂

This is great! I keep a little basket for my notecards in our new office since the makeover and it makes me feel good to rummage through a few select pieces when writing notes to others. It is certainly a more inspirational way to keep all your note writing materials together than having to sort through a giant cardboard box or run all over the house trying to find a stamp or sticker to add!
