I love organizing drawers. There I said it. They don’t usually require a lot of time and there is something about it that I find so methodical and calming. It’s a quick project that provides a great “high”. Whenever I want to zone out for awhile I usually go and dump a drawer 🙂 So fun!
Practically every drawer in my house has some kind of bin or basket in it. It’s so much easier to organize drawers if you can establish some limits and boundaries. Bins do that job fantastically. They keep “like with like” so that you can easily find what you need when you need it. That’s really what it’s all about isn’t it?
Most of the bins and baskets I use come from the dollar store or Walmart. They are an inexpensive solution that serves a big purpose. Recently I had the opportunity to hit up a Dollarama and this is what I found.
Seriously, so many choices! Mix and match sizes to create any configuration you want. Beautiful, just beautiful! Don’t you feel like organizing your junk drawer now? lol
My son’s underwear and sock drawer is a combination of a Walmart bin and a dollar store bin.
And don’t think you have to purchase anything either. Shop your cupboards! Tissue boxes work really well as do cracker boxes, tea boxes, pasta boxes, whatever! It’s all good!
Of course, the only problem with bins is that if they don’t fill the space all the way to the sides, you can waste some space. I was happy to find this adjustable solution for those instances where I do need to utilize the entire drawer and they work amazingly well!
You get two adjustable spring loaded drawer dividers per box and they fit drawers from 12 inch to 18 inch deep. Available here.
I added them to my bra/camisole drawer and I did gain a lot more space than with the baskets I was previously using.
Another couple of drawer organizing products I am loving lately are the acrylic organizers. Drawer Decor makes a great set for cutlery drawers but of course they don’t have to be limited to just that purpose.
My cutlery drawer recently went from looking like this:
to this:
With a family of 5, my old cutlery organizer was just too small. Cutlery was constantly spilling over the sides into the other slots. It was driving me batty. The new Drawer Decor organizers are wider and also taller so they hold a lot more. And I love the colored mats that you can add underneath to keep them from sliding around and of course for a fun pop of color. Available for purchase here.
For my bathroom drawer I was super excited to find this set of stackable acrylic cosmetic trays below. I love, love, love these because they hold so much and the organizer that fits on top can slide forward or backwards to make reaching what you need super easy. So functional!! 🙂 Available for purchase here.
Oh and one last thing I recently added to my shop to help people with organizing their drawers, is this sock organizer. Very cool! Available for purchase here.
So there you have a few cool tools for keeping your drawers in order and neatly organizer. All it takes is setting some boundaries and limits with either boxes, bins, baskets or trays. There is always a solution for every budget to solve a variety of drawer organizing needs. Now go dump a drawer, I dare ya 🙂
Happy organizing!
Please note: Currently at this time, my Opensky shop only ships to US addresses. If you live outside the US and would like to order you may want to utilize one of these services: Shipito.com or MyUS.com

You’re in good company, Laura! Organizing drawers is my happy place as well. I can always find something to organize as my family is not as detailed as myself. 🙂

I’m so jealous! I want a Dollarama with all those bins! We have nothing like that in any of our Dollar Trees. Happy organization.

What are the little vials in your cutlery drawer behind the knives?
Laura says
Hi Jan, those are my essential oils that I use in my kitchen burner to make the room smell pretty. Satsuma is one of my favorites 🙂

I went out this morning and purchased the press fit draw organizers to replace my bamboo expandable draw organizer. Everything fits so much better, the former organizer just too up too much space and the slots were too shallow. I am so much happier with my draw now! thanks for the suggestion!

Sigh. I miss Dollarama. The US dollar stores are really a poor substitute!

I’m looking for a new system to use in my silverware drawer. Too bad this tray is so expensive, especially with the added mat underneath. Do you have any suggestions more in the $20 max range? (I do understand you need to promote that web site, though!)
Laura says
I do like the drawer organizers that expand to accommodate any drawer size. You can get them at Walmart or Target.
