I’ve partnered up with technology lifestyle expert Carley Knobloch, from Digitwirl, to bring you some fun yet informative videos on various products and services related to technology that will help you get organized and simplify your busy life.
Today’s Digitwirl:
Today’s Digitwirl is an app to help you stop your junk mail from coming into the house in the first place. It’s called PaperKarma and is available for both iPhone, Windows and Android phones. PaperKarma allows you to take photos with your smartphone’s camera of the junk mail you wish to stop. Snap a photo, and you’re done. They automatically contact the Mailer and remove you from their distribution list. PaperKarma can stop most junk mail that is addressed directly to you. Sounds cool to me, especially if you aren’t a big fan of junk mail. I personally love it though because it gives me something to PURGE and you know how I love to purge….hahaha.
Notes From Carley:
Catalogs, phone books, postcards, coupons… when fighting the war on junk mail, one can feel a little outnumbered. Before your mailman gets all bent out of shape, let me introduce you to a deceptively pacifist app that fights the war on junk mail with a powerful punch. Paperkarma puts the power to reduce your paper junk mail in your smartphone— just download the app and in a few steps, you’ll be getting rid of the unwanted paper that inundates your mailbox.

Any privacy concerns here? Its asked me to connect to FB, and I’m not keen on sharing my address. Sure I know people can GET it, but whats going on in the background that we don’t know?
Laura says
Sorry Stacy I’m not entirely sure myself but I’ll see if Carley can answer this for us. Thanks!

Good question, Stacy— from what I understand, the Facebook Connect feature just allows you to use the app without setting up an account with PaperKarma. If that makes you uncomfortable (a real concern for a lot of people), you can opt to log-in by creating an account with PaperKarma instead, if you approve of PaperKarma’s privacy policy. I hope that’s helpful.

Thanks ladies. Now that I read the how-to, it seems they don’t want you to snap your address, just the sender. Makes sense to me. Hopefully it works!!
