If you are new to 52 Weeks of Organizing, catch up here!
Here we are at Easter weekend and I’m sure the last thing you want to be thinking of is organizing. I get it. However come Tuesday you’ll still have a couple of days to get your one list item done so I’m not letting you of the hook entirely. What I slave driver, I know!
So here’s my question to you. How are your drawers? I’m thinking kitchen drawers but really this could apply to any drawer you’ve got in your home. Is it manageable? Is it being maintained? Can you find what you need in a minute or less?
Test yourself.
Have your family ask you to find a particular item and time how long it takes you to find it.
On your mark. Get set. GO
Did you do it?
I love this game which is probably totally geeky but well that’s me, what can I say!
Now that we’ve had a lot little fun, it’s time to dump one of those drawers and get busy. Pull everything out. If you’ve got two junk drawers it will be easier to do both at once. Follow my PROCESS steps to help you determine your game plan and keep you on track.
You might think you don’t have time. But guess what? One drawer is going to take you no time at all. And let’s face it we all have junk drawers, even me! Afterwards you’ll tell me it went way faster than you anticipated. Or you might want to tell me something entirely different and it might include a few of these #*^*$. Yikes! But I’m pretty confident here that in trying to prove me wrong you won’t…hahaha 🙂 (I think now we’ve determined that not only am I geeky but cheeky as well!)
Last week I noticed that a few ladies were tackling their drawers so I’m going to feature a few of them here to inspire you. Look at all these lovely baskets at work. High fives girls!
Questions:
1. Have you got a drawer that needs a little organizing? Will you tackle it this week or something else?
2. Was last week an organizing success for you?
3. Has the habit of just doing one thing at a time helping to keep you from feeling overwhelmed?
Important announcement: Each week I get a number of people linking up that aren’t participating in 52 Weeks and are instead just looking for traffic to their sites. In order to try and get a handle on it (and to save me some work) I’m trying a new inlinkz feature this week. Basically once you put in your permalink (which is a direct link to your 52 weeks post rather than your home page) then inlinkz will automatically search that post to ensure you’ve linked backed to orgjunkie.com/blog (or the 52 weeks permalink) somewhere in your post. Nothing will be different except of course if you don’t link back and then you’ll get an error message. Bare with me and we’ll see how it goes. Thanks for understanding!
Please feel free to share your organizing journey and encourage one another in the comments. You are also invited to link up to the linky below with any posts related to your 52 weeks of organizing participation or to a post of an organizing nature that you feel will help and encourage others in their quest to get organized. Please remember to link back to here though so we can reach out to as many people as possible in need of some inspiration.
One other thing to consider: by including your link below you, you are giving me permission to use parts of your post including pictures as a spotlight in future 52 Weeks of Organizing posts. Proper credit and links will of course be provided. If you are not okay with this please do not link up. Thanks!

I’m a little behind. I did some cardboard removal from garage last week but I still need to post it. Am enjoying a few days away with hubby. I did put some photos on a cd last night so that’s part of organizing, right? I am doing pretty good with drawers. I know where most of everything is. Have a blessed Easter!
Laura says
Oh yes it definitely counts….organizing photos is probably one of the hardest things for me. Blech!

I didn’t know those link up sites had the filtering system. That’s great! I think it’s bad blogging etiquette when people link up to get traffic. It’s frustrating when I link up to something and visit other sites on the list only to find that it links to the home page instead of the specific post, or it’s just unrelated altogether. What a waste of time. I’m glad that inlinkz has that feature. Makes it much better.
Laura says
I so agree with you Joyce. It really upsets me when I visit someone else’s linky and click on a link that isn’t related to the topic. I don’t like that happening for my readers here so I was excited to see this new feature for sure. I really hope it helps. It doesn’t seem to be as much of a problem on Menu Plan Monday so I haven’t decided if I’ll introduce it there yet.

Thanks for the inspiration Laura! Wow! How come I never thought of using baskets in kitchen drawers – especially the one with all the extra stuff! Yay – great project with the Little Ones for the week 🙂 love, Karyn
Laura says
Oh Karyn, yes baskets help so much to not only divide your space but to establish limits and boundaries as well. This post may help as well:

Also if you don’t have baskets on hand, you can use tea boxes or cut down other boxes.
Hope that helps!

1. My silverware drawer is in dire need of an organizational makeover! Looks like I’ll be hitting up The Container Store this weekend.
2. Last week, I finally got around to using wall space in my kitchen to organize. For example, my oven mitts are on a hook, and my aprons are on a decorative hook nearby. So much better than stuffing it all in drawers as I had before!!
3. Not multitasking is something I definitely need to work on! Like many of us, my mind is always in a billion places.

Every little bit truly makes a difference doesn’t it!

Hi Laura and 52 week participants. I don’t know if I’ll make it to link up this weekend, I’m totally overwhelmed! Just popping in for some inspiration and motivation. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and happy Easter to those who celebrate 🙂
Laura says
Sorry to hear that Martha, hopefully you’ve started a detailed list to help clear your head off all there is to do.
Thinking of you.
Martha (MM) says
Thanks Laura. It’s kind of funny, right before I commented here earlier I did a post saying my to do list would be a book if I had one! I’m getting through the basics this afternoon and then I’ll sit down and do my list for whatever is left to accomplish. Thank you for always being such an inspiration! 🙂

Hi Laura! I have wanted to join the fun and contribute my organizing tasks to your posts, but I’m not sure that it’s working. I am going to post a ‘before’ photo, of my junk drawer, and I will try and link back to your site…haven’t figured all that out yet…;) hope it works!
Living the Balanced Life says
None of the silverware drawer organizers ever worked for me, so I bought the click together type from wally world. Now my I have plenty of room for the things that I need, rather than using the preformed, predesignated silverware organizer.
We used the same in our spice drawer as well.
Have a great weekend!

One of my favorite things about organizing drawers is that unlike a closet, it’s not an exhausting, all day event! This can be quick and easy! Empty. Wipe out crumbs and debris. And a quick organize as I put things back in. Easy to see what doesn’t belong, what can be tossed. And a super-quick accomplishment in the time it takes for a few commercials on TV to pass by.
And there’s usually a long-lost surprise or two to be found!

Thanks for featuring my drawer project! I just love that drawer now, it was a disaster before. It took about 5 minutes to fix, I don’t know why I put it off so long! 🙂
