This time, as we continue to prepare for our move at the end of June, we attacked my daughter’s room…again. Outgoing pile number one consisted of two boxes of books that went to a friend’s house and a bookshelf to help her organize all those books 🙂
Outgoing pile number two (below) went to the thrift store owned by a very good friend of mine. More books, clothes and tons and tons of other stuff my sweet pack rat daughter finally agreed to part with. Unfortunately none of that pile includes any of the million and one notebooks she hoards owns. No way was she parting with those. I just have no idea where she gets her addictive tendencies from. It makes no sense at all! 🙂
I’ll admit though that I do love notebooks as well so I really didn’t press too hard.
How many others can relate to a love of pretty empty pages with endless possibilities?

I too love notebooks! and have 2 notebook-loving daughters! I also like them modge-podged……take a peak @ http://funkymomdesigns.blogspot.com/2010/01/notebooks.html

Nothing like a move to give one a good excuse to purge all that stuff. Enjoy.

Okay I have a question. We MAY be moving real soon. (Had an offer on our home yesterday!) Now I don’t know if you’ve already done this or what or know of anyone who has but I would LOVE to have a guideline to packing. You know, what to pack last so you have it. What to have handy just in case, a method to the madness of packing. Anything would help.
HUGS!
P.S. I’ve already done the purging part!
Rachel says
At the very least color code your boxes! When my husband and I moved cross country I took colored pieces of paper and taped them to the top and 2 sides of every box so when we arrived and others were helping us unload the truck they just had to coordinate the colored paper with the paper I had hanging on the door (or wall in the living room, dining room and kitchen). The notes on the paper were all for my benefit and could be as cryptic or as detailed as I had time for on that day of packing.
Kim says
Rachel I am loving this idea! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
I am so going to use this.

oh, my daughters room needs a dumpster and a uhaul – she is so reluctant to part with anything (I’m not admitting that she MAY have learned that from me unfortunately!) and notebooks and journals are her fave!!! She actually just asked for a new fabric covered journal because it has all her “little kid notes”!
good inspiration – I look at the disaster that is my daughter’s room and just am lost as to where to start!
Nini says
OOOOO!!! NOTEBOOKS. Love them! Can’t resist a pretty one,
but I also have to use my one in more than one out rule.
My 2 granddaughters love them, too. Hmmmm…as you
say, where has that penchant come from??!!
Love your Blog.

I can relate. I have stacks of unopened notebooks and cards stored in my craft room. I intend to give them as gifts but that doesn’t really seem to be working out 🙂
Sharisse says
Love it! Our family too is moving in the next couple weeks or so. We’ve been purging for the last 4 months and have a lot of items in storage (stuff we really need but scale down the house so it doesn’t seem small items). IMO one can never purge too much. I can’t think of anything really that I’ve donated or thrown away that I’ve regretted. What I do sometimes feel though is if I no longer want (not necessarily use) it, it will give me a reason to shop for a smaller more slim line version of that item. Like my daughter bedroom set that I gave away, it was replaced with a bed that has drawers built in underneath it eliminating the need for a dresser.

OOOH I so love notebooks! 3-ring, spiral bound, doesn’t matter. I’m such a list taker that the spirals are always in use (I do need to be organized there though, too many notebooks to look for – thoughts are scattered all over the place! LOL) Want to see how I put my 3-ring binders to good use? check out this: http://sweetjeanette.blogspot.com/2010/03/organizing-my-recipes-from-magazines.html
Sharisse says
I love what you have done with the 3 ring binders. I do the same thing with manuals we have for different items & with recipes.
Mandy says
Yup, I’m a notebook junkie, too. But, I have discovered cute recipe cards. Instead of plain ol’ 3×5 cards for making lists and such, I use cute recipe cards from the Dollar Spot at Target or from the $1 section at a local craft store. I like them because they are more sturdy than plain paper, so they hold up better in my wallet and purse.
And the idea to color-code boxes is brilliant! If we ever move, I will totally have to remember that!

I too love notebooks, journals, any kind of pretty paper or things that go with pretty paper! The only (!) problem is that I start writing in one journal and then get another and start writing in it…. now I have so many journals that only have writing in the first quarter of the pages!
Susanne says
2 boxes of books and a bookshelf to store them? Wow, someone will be a very happy camper, or should I say, reader.
Organising Queen (Marcia) says
You know I love notebooks, journals, etc.
In fact, I bought a new one about two hours ago on my way to gym. It had a hot pink crocodile cover – how could I resist?!
Can we have a pic of her stash???
jeanne says
journals or humble spiral notebooks . . . it doesn’t
matter . . . I love them all
screwdestiny says
Can’t say I can relate at all… If I saw someone hoarding notebooks I would definitely give them a “WTF?” and tell them to get rid of them. Lol. But then, I hate writing in notebooks. I don’t mind writing, but it comes much easier to me on the computer.
Alicia says
Wow… last purge you did motivated me to clear my son’s closet. It resulted in 4 trash bags of clothing leaving and two newly re-organized buckets of winter clothes and too-big clothes. Now I think I’m going to try to tackle my boy’s bookshelf. They don’t read many of the books, mostly I keep them because I love books! lol
Melissa says
Love notebooks! Mine get filled with all kinds of things though. Most of them serve as journals. I have prayer journals and ones for devotions that I write, and ones for bible studies…the list goes on. 🙂
I also have notebooks for household tasks, budgeting, meal planning, “to do” lists, things I’d like to buy for around the house…
Well, you get the idea!

Oh, so love notebooks! I have a few (okay, more than a few…) in several drawers in my house. I use them to journal, plan, etc. And I do have a collection of cards and notecards. Handy when we weren’t getting paid and I didn’t have to rush out and buy them. Things are better now but I still enjoy having a supply of gifts ahead.
Cheryl says
I adore notebooks as well! But it doesn’t stop there… I also love to get beautiful and/or personalized stationery! I justify my habit by actually using it (who would have imagined…) I love using my “A note from Cheryl” cards as thank you notes!

You are my inspiration! My Mom comes next week and I plan to go room to room and simplify. We may be moving to Thailand, so I want to prepare my things. The hard part will be my daughter’s “stuff.” I won’t push, but it would be nice to get rid of some of the papers, loot bag junk, etc. Wish me luck!
Cambria says
Just so you know, you website has turned me into an organzing machine. My husband does not get it, my next door neighbor does. We organize ALL weekend now. Its awesome. Thanks, girl!
Kimberley says
Oh yes I can relate to the notebook obsession! I hoard notebooks and paper like it is going out of style! All the more to make lists on right?
Tidy Brown Wren says
I do love a new notebook and new, fresh pencils or pens. Such possibilities!
Mandi says
I still have my old diaries from younger years, and also 2 beautiful ones that are completely blank. I only have them because they have an Eiffel Tower on the cover. Every time I see a notebook/journal France-related, I want to add to my collection. Someday I will write them… maybe.

It is great to see there are more paper junkies out there. My daughter is 12 now and she is a total hoarder. I have to go in her room and throw stuff away when she is at school because its just pure…well you know…if I try to work with her on purging. She keeps every little piece of paper and the bad part is they are just shoved in drawers. I desperatly need to help her get organized, but I just do not know what to do. I have tried coming up with a place for them, but she just finds more places to cram. Will it ever get better?
