You can make any smoothie sweet by adding one or two dates (just be sure to remove the pits!). Also, an avocado makes a smoothie wonderfully smooth and creamy! :)

Amanda,
Maybe your cooked spinach was over-cooked. I felt the same way as you. My mom used to cook canned spinach... gag me with a spoon! I hated it! However, my kids got me to try cooking fresh spinach, and it is quite yummy... but not if over-cooked!

Because of the "phytate" issue in raw spinach, it is recommended to cook spinach before eating. So, my son tried a green smoothie with cooked spinach and he said it tasted exactly the same... he could not tell a difference... but his spinach was not over-cooked!

Laura, Thank you for your wonderfully GREEN idea. I've already burned out 1 blender and went to a juicer for more fruits. But the blender really allows more fiber and nutrition into the shake. I'm on a mission to find a new blender now, hehe :)
Thanks again,

Hi Laura,

Because I don't make time for breakfast, I started drinking homemade rice protein shakes w/fruit. My SNL sent me a link to your recipe. This morning, I started it with your spinach/water, then proceeded adding the fruits I normally do (fresh banana, blueberries, strawberries, and some oj) as well as the rice protein powder, all the while my (5yo) daughter was watching. Out of curiosity she wanted to taste it. We are now hooked! Spinach will now be of the "regular" ingredients I add! So happy my SNL sent me the link. Thanks for sharing!!

Hi Teresa, sorry about my bad picture taking skills, the yellow on top is just the light from the range hood shining down is all.

Whey protein would definitely work. Enjoy!

In your first picture, it looks like there is something yellow on top of the spinach in the blender- ? What is that ?

Can't wait to try your smoothie- will be purchasing spinach on my next shopping trip! Do you think whey protein would work added to it?
