I’m always surprised by the number of people that tell me that it never occurred to them to check out the dollar store for organizing baskets and containers. Girls, I’m hear to tell you that nothing beats the dollar store for inexpensive organizing containers, well unless you count recycled boxes but that’s a whole different post for another day. The dollar store is where it’s at. And yes I know they are made of plastic and probably overseas somewhere, I know. Please don’t send me hate mail. I get it but it’s what I can afford and they’ve changed my life. Seriously.
Unfortunately though I haven’t had too much play time with my baskets lately and it makes me sad. Since we’ll be moving provinces in a couple of months, I’ve done more purging of stuff recently than organizing of stuff. And oh how I’m missing the organizing side of it all and the high that comes from it. The other day I so needed a fix and bad. So what’s a girl to do? Why visit the dollar store (Your Dollar Store for More) of course!
Come along with me and enjoy the eye candy.
Come closer
Remember this picture from last week:
Yep most of those colored bins can be found at the dollar store. Check it out:
Want to see more?
These ones are my favorite for organizing drawers and they are 4 for $1.50:
Loving every minute of it.
So pretty. Hello lovely colors for spring.
Ahh there, now I feel better (don’t you?) and believe it or not I didn’t buy a thing. Not.one.thing. I really can’t because I don’t know yet what my requirements will be in my new home but you’ll be happy to know that just walking up and down and up and down and up and down that special aisle was enough to stop my shakes and give me the fix I needed 🙂 Thanks dollar store!
So what’s the dollar store like in your neck of the woods?
Ginny says
I wish the dollar store I usually go to were that organized and well stocked! Maybe you organized the display before you took your photos, LOL.
Katie says
Yes! Our Dollar Store is a disaster and has maybe a couple of each item in random colors.
Joyce @ Keeping Up With The Moys says
We were just at Dollar Tree. We didn’t buy any containers, but we’re getting a bunch of stuff for my 2nd daughter’s 1st birthday party. And of course, they have packs of photo paper for a dollar!!! It’s not the best quality, but it works! Really great kids’ stuff (workbooks, Mickey Mouse clubhouse puzzles, etc) too. And Campbell’s soups, if you like that sorta thing. You can even buy stuff for your wedding. Buy in bulk online: http://www.dollartree.com/home.jsp No, I don’t work for Dollar Tree, but there are some great finds there!
Heather @ Marine Corps Nomads says
What dollar store is this at? Our dollar tree doesn’t have anything that looks like that. All those containers are great! I could have so much fun. lol!
Thankfully, I found a bunch of really cute lined baskets on a very good clearance at Michaels for my daughter’s room. 🙂
sarah says
We are living in Okinawa right now and I was kinda bummed that there was no dollar store/dollar tree to go to, but THEN I discovered the famous 100 yen store! It’s totally awesome and Japanese totally love compartments for everything, so as a novice organizing junkie, I’m in heaven!
Terry says
I love it. The photos are great! I have to remember that not all dollar stores are junk stores…but you have to hit on the good ones. Great post and reminder to everyone that organizing doesn’t have to be expensive.
Nicole says
Where is this Dollar Store????? It is so organized and clean! The dollar stores around me don’t have anything as good as this and are on the dirty side! Lucky girl!
Belinda S says
Looks to be a Great Canadian Dollar Store to me…I live in NB and frequent both the Great Canadian Dollar Store and Dollarama!!! I have been told by my sisiter in law who lives in Florida that our Dollar stores are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Frances says
Wow! Your Dollar Store is amazing!
Tanna @ Complete Organizing Solutions says
Our dollar stores are nothing like this! 🙁 We have maybe 5 containers that are in different sizes only coming in white or blue. These all take up a very tiny little space on the shelf. I always go in there thinking, why can’t our dollar store be like Laura’s! 🙂 lol
Diane says
I wish our dollar stores had half this stuff! Ours is old, ugly, stinky and unorganized.
Kim says
I have about 6 dollar stores within a 8 mile radius and none of them have storage containers like that.(Believe me I’ve looked) Gee, I wonder if it would be worth the money to fly out there and go to your Dollar Store, stock up and fly back? Hmmmm…….NAH! LOL!
I’m bummed though because I got really excited when I saw that wall of plastic!
Hugs
Kim
Holly T. says
I second all the other posts…while I really like Dollar Tree, it looks NOTHING like these awesome pictures! I really wish this type of dollar store was near me…
Vicki says
Maybe it will make you happy to know that I got/get the same feeling looking at those. I get all giddy thinking how great it would be to be able to use them. But then, my imagination stalls and I can’t think of where I could use them so I don’t buy them! Lol!!
I have to say, our Dollar store has a pretty good aisle like yours. Now if I could just justify buying them (ya know – actually USING them!!!) 🙂
Leslie B. says
Wow! That is an amazing selection! Thanks for the fix! 🙂
We are planning a trip to the dollar store today to get those silly shaped rubber bands for the kids. I can only hope our container aisle looks that good.
I really wish I had more time to spend organizing.
pattyrosebush says
Hey Laura…that’s my store! Glad you like it so much. My boss and I work very hard to bring in all sorts of shapes and sizes. They are as much fun to order as they are to use!
Have a great day.
Laura says
Patty you’re right! I looked for you but didn’t see you. Wasn’t sure if I was going to get in trouble for taking pictures LOL. You have the best selection of containers around, thanks for giving me such a great fix!
Lisa says
Hi Laura. I was doing a google search on dollar store book bins, and your site came up. I have a dollar tree in NJ that looks nothing like that. How can I get those blue or green bins, the ones with no holes? I am an elementary school teacher in desperate search of dollar book baskets for my classroom library. The ones on your site are the exact ones I’m looking for, and my dollar tree has nothing like that. Email me with some ideas. Or is it possible to ship about 50 to me? LOL! Thanks!
Jenn says
LOVE this pics. You gave me a fix 🙂
Our dollar stores have a few but nowhere near that many. I could walk up the aisle for an hour at least 😉
Christy says
Must be a Canadian dollar store! Ontario doesn’t have Target, but they do have Dollorama! We are in the states now and I miss the Canadian dollar stores and their loveliness. Thanks for posting pictures. Makes me want to go back.
Marci@OvercomingBusy says
We stop at the dollar store every once in a while when the kids have a dollar burning a hole in their pocket. I always look for containers! I have found some of the most useful ones there.
TaderDoodles (Lisa B) says
First I started giggling, then I got a little teary eyed… it’s all SO BEAUTIFUL! I love going to the dollar store! Have you seen the $1 fabric ones? that you can fold up when you DON’T need them? AWE! They only seem to come in lime and blue but that doesn’t bother me at all!
Next to office supplies, the plastic want-nots aisle is a forbidden aisle. Hubby gets all worried and starts sweating if I even head that direction!
Laura says
Yes I love those fold up fabric ones and have found them in the cutest small size at the dollar store. They are great!
Beth says
That store aisle looks like so much fun! I too LOVE to organize things. DH sometimes hates me for it, but I get so many ideas and need to act upon them! I’m not sure if the dollar stores around here have THAT much of a selection, but I’m going to find out, that’s for sure.
Kim says
Our Dollar Tree carries alot of containers too! I bought all of the baskets when I redid my sewing room from there. I love going look at all the new colors as they change from season to season.
Christine says
That looks awesome! I’m going to mine today, but not sure it looks that great! As far as time to organize, I’ve always thought that too, I don’t have time. However, I noticed in the last week I have reorganized/cleaned out two areas that needed it, and they only took maybe a half hour at most! One was the kids’ art closet, and the other the kitchen cabinet over my desk with cookbooks and stuff! And I didn’t plan it, it just happened! Now I look for reasons to open the doors just to look! I wonder what it will be today? The guest closet? The drawer under the washer????
Laura says
Way to go, that’s what I love to hear!!!
Heather @CeliacFamily says
I love going to the dollar stores. This week, I noticed ours has really cute wire baskets with handles, in a few different bright colors. They really should have them over by the Easter stuff because they would make cute little Easter baskets. I also go to the dollar store for button batteries, craft supplies, party favors, stationery, workbooks and coloring books for the kids, etc. Sometimes I go just to get out of the house. The kids love to go, especially when I give them each a dollar and let them pick out whatever they want.
Lori O says
Ahhh, the dollar store, brings me great joy and warm fuzzies just muttering the words. I love, love, love the Dollar Tree but also enjoy Big Lots, 99cent only store and periodically Dollar General. Dollar Tree is by far my favorite since everything is just $1 and they often have some very nice stuff. Great place to pick up mylar balloons for parties, etc. I also buy my Sunday papers in there – $1 each for lots of great coupons, saves me $.50 per paper! I just bought some drawer organizers for the kids bathroom since the tooth brushes were getting hair on them from the combs and brushes – now each kids has their own compartment for toothbrushes and another for combs!
Happy Crazy Home says
I’m jealous! I love my dollar tree and 99 cent store but neither have an aisle like that. 🙂
Carrie says
I’m about to move again (the 3rd time in 12 months), and I hadn’t even thought of the dollar store! Goodwill, yes. But they don’t have such a selection. I can’t wait to get over to the $1 now!
P.S. You’ve basically ruined my focus for the next 8 hours. Be proud.
Laura says
So proud, love to spread the addiction 🙂
mamatotwoboys says
DUH! I can’t believe I never thought to look at the dollar store before!
Melissa says
I’ve bought a few containers from the dollar store, but you have to keep an eye out for the good ones. There are three stores to choose from within five miles of my house and not one of them keep their containers isle that neat!
Courtney says
Amazing what you can find at the dollar store!
Kim Ritter says
I have to agree with most all the other ladies on here – my Dollar Tree doesn’t have a neat aisle of plastic like that…it has a few but nothing of that magnitude!
Also, Nancy hit on my problem – I see them and stand and look/think, man what could I do with them? I actually have a small pile going on in a closet all stacked cause I don’t know what to use them for or with. Man to think OUT SIDE the box…I just can’t think of what to do with them so I don’t buy them. Maybe I need an organizational course or something!?! lol
Laura says
I’ve got a ton of posts with various ways I use these containers but maybe it’s time I did another. I really do love them!
denise says
in las vegas the dollar store look like that also. i too am moving to florida . i have so many containers i brought from the dollar store. can you mention if you are taking your containers with you that you have bought already.
Laura says
Yes I’ll definitely be taking them with me for sure. I did part with a few that weren’t favorites of mine but all the others I’ll take and re-use in some fashion in my new home.
jeanne says
Love how honest you are about the excitement you get from seeing all these beautiful containers — lol!
Laura says
It’s definitely a sickness 🙂
Rachel says
OK–I’m officially jealous of your Dollar Store! Ours doesn’t have nearly this great of a selection. I’ve been looking for cheap bins for our guest room for weeks!
Heather says
My dollar store is definitely worth checking out for containers, but it is a far cry from the wonderment of your store!
Michelle says
We recently got Daiso which is a 150¥ store out of Japan. Japanese homes are notoriously cramped for space so Daiso helps housewives get really creative with their space arranging!
Happily, Daiso has come overseas to California, Washington and a few other states. The great majority of things at Daiso are the equivalent of 150¥ and their containers are just to die for!! I’ve found all sorts of containers including containers to organize my refrigerator.
The only (teensy) problem is that their paper containers in particular are made for other standardized paper sizes (A4, etc.) rather than the American 8.5×11 but hey, I’ll live.
Ana says
I love Daiso too! I live in an upscale city which doesn’t allow any kind of discount stores so I almost stopped going to 99 cents only or biglots for that matter. In past two days, I have already been there thrice! They have stackable fridge containers and other stackable baskets etc…all for $1.50 each. Great buy for sure! Thank God for Daiso and its extremely neat and clean as well.
Megg says
I’m a (relatively new) loyal reader that currently doesn’t have a lot to organize, sadly! (I just got married and moved, and though my husband lived in the apartment before I came, it was only for a few months, so he didn’t have time to mess everything up!) However, I just volunteered to help organize an office at church and I can’t wait! I was wondering if you had any office-related storage solutions? I know he’s going to need a filing system, but I wanted something a little more exciting and interesting-looking than your typical metal filing cabinets.
Thank you for your help!
camille says
I wish my dollar store looked like that. Please share the location. That place is awe-inspiring… I could re-do my whole house that way. If only my dollar store was stocxked so healthy. Bummed
Laura says
Camille I’m in northern BC, Canada. I forget the name of the store though. Not all of our dollar stores look like this. This one is exceptionally great 🙂
camille says
Thank you Laura for letting me know. Unfortunately you are quite a ways from me. We live in Florida. 🙁 I will be visiting my large Dollar Tree stores (3) in hopes that they are overly stocked! Wish me luck! Beautiful closet by the way!! I have wall space that can be converted to wall storage but don’t know how to go about it regarding configuring what sizes I need too many details for the brain. It would have to be something that doesn’t include hubby labor, that takes too long! Do you have any ideas or any sites that you can refer me to? Thank you Laura Keep those pictures coming!!!
camille says
Are you moving to FLorida???
Laura says
The name of the store is Your Dollar Store With More.
DemMom says
Some of our $ stores have this kind of stuff, selection varies from time to time. I also like Big Lots for this type of stuff. Not everything for a dollar, but pretty close! I understand what you mean about needing your “fix,” though. I do that sometimes at the office supply store!
Allison @ Alli 'n Son says
I stopped at our Dollar Store a few weeks ago looking for storage. I was surprised and impressed by their selection. I might just have to stop by again soon.
Jenny says
I’ve always loved the Dollar Store for organizing supplies, but I think yours outdoes ours by a million times! I am so jealous (in a good way).
Jewelybelle says
I decided this year that instead of presents, all my relatives would be getting cookies.
And I wanted to send them in some cute Christmas tins.
Cheap tins.
So I searched for hours thrift stores near and far. On the way home from one of the stores I happened to pass a Dollar Tree.
And light dawns on Marblehead.
I probably left skid marks in the middle of the road turning around. And what do you know.
There is a huge pile of different Christmas tins. The perfect size for sending in a padded mailer! All was well with the world again and next year Dollar Tree will be my first stop when searching for Christmas tins.
Judy @ Frugal at Home says
Ooh, I’d love it if my local dollar stores had this much to choose from! We generally end up searching through Walmart for baskets and such to organize our household.
Laura says
Walmart has some great baskets although they are typically a little more pricey is all.
Lisa says
I don’t think my dollar store has that kind of selection, but I’m still amped to go check it out! I too hadn’t really thought to look there…this post made me smile! Thanks- needed a smile inspired by plastic baskets today…it’s the simple things that keep us going!
Laura says
Oh yes!
leighann Marquiss says
Our dollar store looks nothing like this! Ours has lots and lots of ceramic figurines, a tons of cheap toiletries and a lot of easily breakable toys. The best deals are the kids books and bubbles!
Laura says
Yes I’ve been to some not so good dollar stores as well. In fact the one in my new province didn’t look so great and I’m a little worried about that. Whatever will I do!
Melissa says
Wow, you have a really nice dollar store! I wish ours in Milwaukee were nicely set up like that and like others said..well stocked at that.. o_O
LuAn says
The closest dollar store to us is a Dollar General. It is good for quick trips and single item pick-ups. I try to avoid them in general, but DH is always wanting to pick up one or two things. There is also a Family Dollar not too far away. But for like mass quantities of things…which can come home with me on a trip to the stores, I like either the Dollar Tree or the Mighty Dollar store.
Laura says
Typically when I go on vacation I check out every dollar and thrift store for baskets and containers. It’s so exciting because you never know what treasures you’ll find 🙂
BlissfulBabe says
I hate to say it, but I too, am one of those that never had that thought. I feel so ashamed! Look at all of those fabulous baskets and containers! Oh my Heavens. I. Must. Go. To. The. Dollar. Store. STAT!!!
Thanks for this fab post!
Tiffany says
I love the Dollar Tree near us. I tend to linger in there for hours, it doesn’t help that it’s right next door to a fabric store and TWO huge home improvement stores. It’s like another world over there.
Tiffanee says
I agree with the others on how cool that dollar store is. I love the organization with all the colors.. Yes it does make me want to buy some. I have been searching for bins to organize my chest freezer. To help elimate me standing on my head to find anything. Any ideas on what to use and where I could find them? Thanks!!
Marci says
I LOVE the Dollar Store! 🙂 I’m so glad to find out that I’m not the only “weirdo” who’s addicted to containers! I’ve always loved them…and I admit…I buy them for no good reason, except that they are cute. My son says I need to buy containers to keep my containers in! lol 🙂
The pictures are wonderful! Thank you! 🙂
Laura says
LOL, yep I have a container for my containers…it’s such an addiction!

my heart skipped a beat – and THEN some!
I could look at those photos for hours pondering the reorganization of ever nook and cranny of my home!
Thank you, I needed that too!

I have to agree with the other comments that our Dollar Stores don’t have nearly the selection, but they still have some good finds. Just this week there was a picture in our local paper where a lady was parked in front of our Dollar Tree and she accidently accelarated instead of backing up and ended up crashing through the front of the store. No one was hurt thankfully. Love your site. It helps to feed my organizing frenzy, especially when I need new ideas or run out of steam on my own!!
Laurel says
Laura; We have Dollar Rama stores here. They are the same and I have just recently started going there for my baskets or organize my one kitchen drawer that holds sissors, can opener and other “good” junk like that.
Sue says
Well doggone…. I’m just going to come & live with you…. either I’m not looking in the right Dollar Stores around here or ours aren’t as wonderful as yours…. lol
I’ll keep searching….. not saying that they don’t have containers, just not the wonderful variety you posted….
Sue
(who is drooling & wishing she could find a spot like that)
Kayren says
Maybe I haven’t hit the right one, but there was a tiny selection the last time I looked. I mean, like a small section of one shelf. Almost nothing.
I don’t plan on moving three time zones or to Canada, but your dollar store gives me envy.
MommyBrain says
Nearest Dollar Store is, well, not so near … and it doesn’t have even close to the selection of containers … I was drooling as I scrolled through your post!
Rona says
We don’t have a dollar store on my immediate bus route so it’s been months since I’ve been.
After seeing how pretty the storage area looked it inspired me. I will have to take a leisurely trip to the nearest dollar store to redo our storage area, in our bedroom.
Creative Triplet Mom says
The dollar stores near us aren’t as organized and most of the time it’s a mess when you go down the aisles. Some of the dollar stores here are so crowded that you can’t fit 2 people down the aisle. Sure wish we had one like you have in your area. Great post enjoyed looking at all the eye candy.
Emilie says
Laura; I am new to your organizing blog and I have found you blog/website through a family member on Facebook. I am so glad that I have found your site because I am always looking for great organization ideas to help me find my stuff easily and quickly.
I am also glad that I am not the only one that likes to go to the local dollar store to find different treasures… seriously I tend to go to my local dollar store about once a week and sometimes twice a week to find different stuff that are great finds and baskets are one of them. I also like using these baskets for about everything and anything like; my skin care, hair care products to makeup! They make really great organization!!
Thank you for sharing your great organization tips with the rest of us!!
camille says
I had some success in my theory: That the bigger the store the more container selection it would have. I went to one of my three and it was true. SO I hope to find some nice crate like containers at the other stores. OH my daughter 9 yrs old saw your containers and is now a Organized Junkie in training!! Camille ORL FL
Laura says
Love that!! 🙂
Melanie MacNabb says
Can I ask which Dollar Store you found these? Just wondering if it was a chain store or a local one. It would help if we knew your source! 🙂
Thanks!
Laura says
Just found out for you. It’s called Your Dollar Store With More. I live in BC, Canada.
Christie Love says
Often clients think getting containers to get organized is beyond their budget- it is always nice to show them how untrue that is. I love the dollar store for that reason!

Maybe you could change the page subject Take a trip to the dollar store for inexpensive organizing containers to more suited for your webpage you create. I liked the the writing nevertheless.
