Making Simple Homemade Treats for Others Anytime

This week the Juice discussion is about giving more and getting more out of relationships.  I watched the video with Christine Koh from Boston Mamas and she had some great tips for how to reach out to others including practicing random acts of kindness and making homemade gifts for friends.  As a mom to three, I wanted to be able to incorporate both of these activities into meaningful lessons for my kids on a regular basis.  That’s when we came up with the idea of cookie baskets. {read more at The Juice}

    Hey, Laura –
    My neighborhood is big on delivering goodies to each other. It is a great way to make friends, let people know you care and makes you feel all warm and cozy inside (both giving and receiving).
    Great post!

    Hi Laura. We have done something similiar at our home to incorporate being mindful of those that the Lord has placed in our lives. When we bake whole wheat bread or muffins, we will make a few extra muffins or a mini loaf of bread and wrap in wax paper, tying with a pretty ribbon then deliver to a neighbor. This is just a simple way to let them know we are thinking about them and teaches my children to think of serving other people. We have also sought out opportunities to do things in secret, such us bringing up an elderly neighbors trash cans or pulling weeds. This way the Lord sees and it teaches my children not to seek praise from people but to do what would be pleasing to Him.

    We’ve done this too but I personalize a cookie jar (coffee container) for the recipient as well as include a copy of the recipe on a decorative recipe card. It adds a little extra umph! I’m thinking about adding homemade toffee and mason jar pies to the goodie list this year. Our neighbors and friends love it.

    I recently made and shared your granola recipe with a friend and she was as thrilled with it as we were. Also sent some to my college student in a care package…big hit! thanks for the food for thought!
