Storage Solutions from Better Homes & Gardens
I’ve been checking out the Better Homes & Garden site and was delighted to find a whole section devoted to organizing solutions. And while some of the ideas are over the top and cost a little too much money there are also some very practical inexpensive solutions that you can do to create more storage space in your home.
I’d like to highlight a few of my favorites.
Bathroom Storage:
The bathroom door is full of unused storage space. Paint the door with magnetic paint to create an attractive surface on which to hang towel hooks and metal disks. Install removable bins and towel bars to store extra towels, shampoo, and soap.
Or use 3M Command Adhesive Hooks!
Closet Storage:
Pegboard mounted to the door provides ample storage while rolling containers make the space easily accessible.
Underbed Storage:
The under-bed space invites toys, collections, and out-of-season clothes, which can be kept in baskets or drawers.
Home Office:
This muffin pan will do more than help you cook when you use it to compartmentalize office supplies. Use an inexpensive cupcake pan to organize small items that have a tendency to get lost in drawers.
Simple Weekend Project:
Give a ladder a fresh coat of paint. Add old vent grates to each rung and simply screw them into place.
I just recently picked up a wooden ladder FREE from our local thrift shop and was looking for a simple way to use it for storage. Can’t wait to get started on it!

oo! I love the ladder idea! My parents have an old wooden ladder that should be taken apart and used for something like this so they stop trying to use it!
Thanks, as always, for sharing!
Fantastic ideas. Love the idea of the magnetic paint and that ladder! Thanks!
OK, I didn’t know there was such a thing as magnetic paint, but I’m seeing major possibilities in the kiddos rooms! Thanks for the inspiration!
Love the magnetic paint idea. Definately looking for that at the hardware store next time.
they have alot of great idea over there..love browsing BH&G! :)
Oh wow, I looove the ladder idea! How great is that??!!
Blessings,
Cara
those old wooden ladders also make great towel racks for the bathroom, especially if you are renting. just paint and lean against the wall!
as for the magnetic paint, i had this around the top of walls in my old house. i simply brought a set of magnets of my kids favorite characters and suck them around the walls for a border. these can be changed at any time to adapt to the kids forever changing interests without having to strip wall paper or repaint.
LOVE the scrapbooking closet! The closet in our study is deep and we’ve managed to put a four drawer filing cabinet in it. It’s hidden away beautifully!

I love the magnetic paint & chalkboard paint I’ve seen used in so many magazines lately.
Thanks Cathy for the great idea with using it as a border in rooms for easy changing of themes :-)
I think the only thing I’d like to add to the ladder project would be something rubber at the top so it doesn’t rub the wall?
Thanks as always for your ideas – I love getting the email that you’ve added another Amazing Article for me to read!
Is there any way you could help find out where they got the hanging bins for the back of the bathroom door? I have been looking everywhere!! Please, please post!
I am so jealous!! I have been looking at yard sales, thrift shops, trash piles,
consignment stores, etc. for a ladder.
I want to use it to display/ store all
of the beautiful vintage table clothes
that I have been given!!!!
I haven’t been able to find those hanging bins. You can find similar ideas though if you google door organizers. It looks like it might be from Ikea but I couldn’t find anything like it on their site unfortunately.
Sorry about that. I’ll definitely keep my eyes open.
I love the ladder idea. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for one now!
Ladies, the hanging baskets look like items I have seen in IKEA’s kitchen organization collection. They have bars with a variety of mix-and-match organizers to hang from them.
A muffin pan? Seriously? If it’s from a thrift store, maybe, but those things cost a fortune. Plastic organizers are way cheaper.
