Gluten Free Resources

in Recipes-Allergy Free,The Juice

I have been cooking gluten free for almost 10 years now. My 10 year old son has severe food allergies and in addition to dairy, eggs, soy, fish and nuts, he is also allergic to gluten. To say I panicked in the beginning is an understatement and we literally fumbled our way through the first couple of years. Now thankfully it’s just a way of life for us and we owe it all to a few simple resources. {continue reading at The Juice}

Wow,my 5 year old has exactly the same food allergies,I too panicked at first, but cooking without certain ingredients or finding substitutes and reading labels just becomes second nature.Do you find that some people that do not have children with food allergies seem to think you are over reacting.I experience this all the time.

I have a few food allergies. My little one doesn’t -yet. But I was very careful of what she ate, especially when she was too little to tell someone how she felt. People think I over react. But this is why I never let her stay with my in-laws alone, I just couldn’t be sure what they would feed her.

Yes I do find people think we over react sometimes in the precautions we take. Many people who aren’t familiar with us just don’t get it. Education is still a huge thing isn’t it.

Laura and all other gluten free moms,
Good news! Betty Crocker just launched a line of gluten free mixes. They have the following gluten free mixes:
chocolate brownie
chocolate chip cookies
chocolate cake
vanilla cake.
Their website has al sorts of recipes that use their new mixes. You might have to ask your grocer for them since they are new

Thanks everyone. We were just told my 7 yr old may have celiac disease so I am fumbling my way through. I appreciate all the input here.

After 3 1/2 years of stomach aches and numerous doctor visits, we tried our daughter on a gluten free/MSG free diet, and she hasn’t had a stomach ache since! She was tested for gluten/celiac problems years ago, and tests were negative. It’s been a challenge to figure out meals, so I can’t wait to make your flour blend! Do you make one meal every night, or two? I’m still lost and confused, and trying to find my way. Thanks so much for the information you posted – it came just in time for me! I had found glutenfreemommy, and it’s one of my faves – thanks again!!

Robin :-)

We do all gluten and dairy free also (that is what my blog is about angelaskitchen.com ). I agree, there is such a great group of gluten free blogs out there. They are all so supportive. You don’t have to start alone now, thank goodness.

Thank you for sharing your resources to help others get connected.

thanks so much for the resources. We just found out my son needs a GFCF diet and I freaked. This has helped calm the nerves a ton!

PS I love your blog. I just nominated you for Kreativ Blogger if that’s OK. Just check out my blog.

Robin as often as possible I try to make one meal by substituting the flour blend where I can. However due to the number of allergens he has I can’t do this with every meal so on those days he gets a modified version of whatever it is we are having. For instance if we are having a chicken dish dredged in bread crumbs and cheese, I’ll just serve his chicken plain and lightly seasoned (which he prefers anyway).

Hi, just a side note, I found a new toothpaste for my daughter at BabiesRUs that was flouride free and come to find out it is also wheat and gluten free. The brand is JASON. Just an FYI…I know you are talking about food but thought I’d mention it. :)
