Dollar Store Drools

in Containerizing

The other day a very sweet reader from Texas sent me two pictures that immediately caused me to break out in a cold sweat of excitement. Oh my word, this is what you call one amazing dollar store. There are baskets and containers here to suit any organizational dilemma.

Sweet!

I love that my readers enable my addiction…what a high!

Have you been overlooking your dollar store as a place to go to make all your organizing dreams come true?   No?  Oh dear, maybe these pictures will change all that.  But here’s where the responsible part of my addiction kicks in (who ever heard of a responsible addict anyway!) do your remove, sort, purge FIRST and then visit Containerland to establish your boundaries and limits with some of these beautiful baskets babies.

Come on, you know you want to.

Slurp.

Jen, DITTO!!!! I love to containerize… LOVE it. BUT I can’t get myself into the purging spirit. I get taken over by anxiety each time I start. Waah….

Seriously I have lurked around every dollar store in town (ok, in three cities) and I cannot find a dollar store that is stocked like this. Would it be weird to start contacting store managers and say they are doing an injustice by not providing people with the proper bins necessary to tackle small projects. ;)

Definitely an injustice keeping people from making their organizing dreams come true. So sad.

I have actually had conversations with our local dollar store and they keep it stocked pretty good as a result so it definitely is worth giving it a try.

Organizers unite!!

Part of my problem is that I have no where to PUT the baskets or other storage items. My house is seriously lacking proper storage. I have a basement but I don’t want to run to the basement for everyday use, and nor do I want to forget about things because they are in the basement.

And sadly, some of my cupboards don’t really fit any proper sized baskets. hrmm. I’ll keep trying though. I think it’s a rest-of-my-life thing.

Oh I am so relieved that we don’t have a dollar store because my house would be burdened with containers!!! I often find if I get rid of a container things find their way to their correct home automatically – no half-way houses for me!!!

Must be a Dollar Tree… see those black and white woven baskets on the top shelf in the first picture? Those are the BEST! I, too, wish my store had that big of a basket section.

I just left the dollar tree. But I just got fall decor stuff…no containers…(sniff, sniff)I’m crying on the inside.

My dollerama here in Canada looks very similiar to that. The one thing you forgot to mention was to measure your spot you want a container for after you have purged. I didnt do that and have a few extra baskets!!!!!

We have one dollar store that has a decent selection of baskets, but it isn’t stocked anywhere near as nicely as this one. I am so jealous.

I blogged about something like this today..I said that I needed to use what I had though..now that I have seen this…I want to go out and containorize even more than I did before I blogged. I had the kids go thru there rooms, the spare room, downstairs closet and the attic for empty containers that we could use in the play room to get things back in order…Oh how some of those pretty colors would have been better than what I found…BUT Im gonna make due till I can afford it without regret. I love this site and that there are others out there like me..that get excited about things like this…Those pics are awesome…HE HE

LOL. Now this is much more serious than I realized. Are we going to need a basket intervention? LOL.

LOL that looks like my Dollar Tree! Wonder if the person who sent it to ya is from Houston too! That is the only dollar store I shop at anymore because of how huge it is and the baskets o my!!!

I love our local dollar tree for baskets and storage bins. I like to put gifts in them as well, instead of gift bags or wrapping that will be thrown away. They are the same price and they are a gift in themselves! Just a warning though, sometimes these small sizes are actually cheaper at Walmart or other discount stores. Especially the small clear shoe boxes, which I have seen for 5-7¢ cheaper elsewhere.

If you can’t find what you want at your store go to dollarstore.com and you have them ship what you want to your local store for free.

These are all probably made in China. Why give them our money? I found some nice ones at Target– MADE IN USA. Keep our money here, please!

Yes Diane, all the Dollarama’s I’ve been too here in Canada look pretty much like this. It’s a pretty bomb dollar store.

LeAnn September 9, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Oh my! I think I’d fly to Houston to find that Dollar Tree….. perhaps I should show this photo to our Dollar Tree manager and tell him the expectations!! Containers and baskets are so tempting~

Cherise September 9, 2009 at 6:12 pm

I’m in Canada so this is a picture much like my Dollarama. The only thing is I have to avoid that aisle unless I have a list and someone else with me or we’re in BIG trouble.

Kim September 10, 2009 at 5:01 am

I am so glad I’m not alone. I get chills, fast heart beat and shortness of breath when I see an isle full of organizing anything. It’s such a disease. I, too, do organizing workshops and how to get over the mental hold clutter has on you along with maintainence, cooking, laundry, decorating, and more so I completely understand the overwhelming process you go throughto get started. I was not taught nor was organizing in my blood til I decided to change. These pics are definitely a draw for me.

I L-O-V-E the dollar store. They have amazing deals on some very good products. Reminds me I need to get more laundry baskets! ;)

I am thinking a road trip to Texas is in my near future.

What if I use the baskets, containers, etc as part of my purging… does that count? :)

Reply

Stacey September 10, 2009 at 6:28 am

My Dollar Tree in St. Louis was like that, but since moving to Arizona, I have not been able to find anything that compares…. I am having CCW – cheap container withdrawal!!!!

I was in our Dollar Tree in town the other day on a mission to get a few things. I always slow down in the basket section. I saw some cute ones but quit drooling and walked on. I did buy a $1 purple 5 letter section file at Target, when I was out shopping for a few items. It was calling my name. Ok, it will help organize my desk that so badly needs it. Shred day in town is Fri. So I have 2 grocery sacks ready to go. My daughter will take them along with her 2 bags to shred. It’s happening and love these shred days that happen cuz that definitely helps. I have the stuff shredded before my eyes and that makes me feel much more confident that it’s done!!!
Have a great day!

I am always looking at the Dollar Store baskets and containers trying to determine if I need one. Usually when I am looking for one they don’t have the right size, shape or color… but there are other times when I get all tingly from getting just the perfect, inexpensive container.

The Dollar Tree is my spot, I feel like a kid in a candy store when I go in there with $20! :) All my baskets for organizing are from there and I just picked up some makeup remover and cubes there yesterday! :)

Addict? I pass my local Dollar Tree, and think “I have $10 in my purse, so that means I can buy 10 things!” I’ve been known to scrounge up $20 and still spend an hour in that store! It’s definitely an addiction…that I quite enjoy!

I found a new, giant-sized Dollar Tree in Annandale, VA (for anyone who lives in NoVA). Their basket aisle looks JUST LIKE THAT. And yes, when I came up on it I almost wet myself.

Wait till you see their crafts aisle. Amazing!

I can honestly say that I DO remove, sort, and purge BEFORE I buy more containers, THANKS to my darling daughter-in-law.

She is “Ms. If You Haven’t Used That In The Last 24 Hours, You Need To Get RID Of It.” She visited me in July, and was SHOCKED at the number of baskets I had accumulated after they moved out of town.

After we had containerized everything left TO containerize, she dragged me kicking and screaming to Salvation Army to donate an SUV FULL of baskets. She DID let me keep about 10-15 of the ones she deemed to have the most potential.

I recently used up my stock, and e-mailed for permission to buy more. She said, “Of course, but only buy ones for which you have a definite need. No stockpiling! And always remember, ONE IN, ONE OUT!

What did that girl do before she had ME to raise? I love her–she saves me from myself.
