I am huge fan of getting organized for back to school! I re-did a closest and turned it into a school station and re-did my laundry room to store backpacks and lunch boxes.

I'm always amazed at the "back to school" frenzy I see in so many of my friends and clients. Your points are very well laid out - a bit of planning and being mindful about what you are doing can save you a lot of headache and a lot of money!
I kept my daughter's school supply list with me as soon as I got it and picked up sale items as I saw them.
Did the same as Chaney in her comment with clothes - hit consignment sales and shops.
Have the backpack station, and a lunch station. Setting up the routines is critical.
Good post. My daughter started back 2 weeks ago so we had to be prepared!

At the end of the school year I go through all of my children's clothes to see what fits and what doesn't. We have 4 kids so this can be time consuming. However, I also make a list of what we need for the next size up. Then over the summer I hit garage sales and thrift stores and get their next size clothing. I never do the typical "back to school shopping" as it's extremely expensive to buy brand new and because my kids grow so fast that it's just not worth buying brand new. I spend approximately $100 a year on clothes for 4 children and I don't have to go shopping when they start growing out of the clothes they currently fit in.

I agree with not buying back to school clothes 'just because'. I have 3 boys though, not sure it would work if I had 3 fashion divas in my home..

I love this article. Since it is the middle of the school year here I hope I remember to come back and read it when February rolls around.

This is PERFECT.

I'm still bummed about earlier today - did you see the sun come out at about 6:30? We weren't sure if it did that at the lake too, but it was sunny in town at that time. Darn rain!!
