Just found your website...love it!

My dilemma: I have four children (ages 5-11) and I want to organize them and their stuff for school.

Questions:

*Where to put their backpacks?
*How to organize papers, supplies, etc
*Time for HomeWk - better after school
or after dinner?

Facts:
*The study area is the kitchen table.
*I have a dresser in the front room
w/4 drawers-their "art" stuff is in it
*They'll be in 2 dif schools.
*I work and get home around 4pm.
*They also attend religious ed.,
soccer & swimming practices

I am frustrated and overwhelmed.
Need help.

Thanks!

Laura - you truly made my day when I saw the mention of my site in your article. Thank you!

Thank you as well for the menu plan inspiration. I was new to the concept until I stumbled on to your site a couple of years ago, and it has been a huge blessing to my family! I have taken a few months off from menu planning, but I'm back in the saddle this week...and very excited about it!

Thanks again and have a wonderful week! :-)

I have often found using coupons to be VERY hard -- many of the brand thing I do use rarely have them.

And with only 3 of us in the house I have to re think many of the ways to shop so we waste less.

Not to much success yet but I will give the info provide here a good going over for a possible diamond in the rough that could help us.

Thanks for all you do!

We don't have much in the way of coupons here in Australia - I save by buying as much as I can in bulk. You pay a lot for packaging! I also make nearly everything myself - breads, sauces, cakes, sweets (even chocolate), meals, juices, rice/nut milks, dairy free ice cream... it's cheaper and so much healthier, and tastier too. Thankfully, I have a Thermomix, which saves HEAPS of time when you're making everything from scratch! Otherwise I think I'd still be buying bread, rice milk, sauces, etc.

I love to use coupons when I can as well. I make our own cookies, 99% of the time and dinners are usually from scratch as well. Takes a bit more time but tasty!!

I was on a shopping trip and had a long week. I didn't have time to menu plan so I took 2 Every Day with Rachael Ray magazines with me I'd cooked from before. So I found 5 recipes in the parking lot before driving on to Trader Joes. I was able to get more pasta products and meat there that I like. We use one of their breakfast sausages in recipes and taste wonderful. No nitrates which is a plus. I like shopping there cuz their foods are great, not alot of junk. It's a ways to go so I shop there once a month and stock up on my favorite cereal I can't get anywhere else.
Gotta go get to grating zucchini for bread today. Have a grate weekend...:0)

In addition to menu planning I began to save money by keeping up with what I've got on hand.

I keep a dry erase board on the fridge and on one side I list meats I've purchased and put in the freezer, or meals I've got all ingredients for. Then on the other side I list all leftovers that are in the fridge.

It helps me to know what to put on the menu and we know without opening the door what we have already made. It also keeps leftovers from being forgotten, growing a science project, and wasted. So $$ is saved!

Thanks for the link, Laura! I just want to remind everyone (non-U.S. included) that there are plenty of savings to be had without having to use coupons. Besides meal planning (the biggest one, and so easy thanks to Laura's Monday Meal Plan posts), you can plan meals around your store sales flyers, shopping the loss leaders at multiple stores, and keeping a pantry meal on hand for busy nights.

Laura I am from Canada too and find there are not very many coupons for us as there is for everyone in the U.S. It amazes me the amount of blogs that cover this topic or the cvs deals.
Thanks to your article I found another canadian coupon site which always excites me.
Keep up the great work!!!!!!!
