Since it’s closet/cupboard month here on the blog, I thought it only fitting to highlight someone who recently did a complete overhaul on one of hers. A couple of months ago Yard Sale Princess (I’ll refer to her as YSP for short) of Digging for Treasure did a shout out for suggestions on her walk in closet in her bedroom. It is a fantastic space that she was using as a craft closet. The problem was it was completely over run with STUFF and in desperate need of some organizing solutions. Let’s just say it was a diamond in the rough.
YSP called her system the “toss and run” system. Toss in and then run like heck to get out of there so as not to have to see the mess. Can anyone relate? As you can imagine that poor closet wasn’t living up to its potential. But boy was there potential. It’s not a whole room but it sure is the next best thing and this little oasis was just crying out for some attention.
Be sure to visit this post for many more before pictures.
I got giddy when I read that the first thing YSP did was empty the space out. That’s my girl! You’ll definitely have to read the midway craft room update she posted outlining the steps she was taking to accomplish her task. Steps that included electrical outlets and paint.
Finally after a few problems along the way YSP was ready to debut her new space and gosh did she do an amazing job. I’m only going to give you a bit of a teaser here:
and be still my heart:
Can you just imagine the creativity that this organized space will spark. I’m so excited for her! You will have to visit Digging for Treasure to see the rest of the pictures. What a job well done and definitely Storage Star worthy here today!
Thanks for letting us take a peak YSP!!

Laura, this post looks amazing! Thank you so much for giving me a STORAGE STAR! I have always wanted one! I put up a post on my blog today letting all my peeps know how kind you are to do this! Thank you for all of the inspiration for this redo! There are so many areas in my home that have a little touch of Laura in them!

My favorite part is all the labels! I need to get labeling in my craft room – it makes everything look so much neater. I see she also has a spice rack in her closet – I have one in my craft room too! Great job!

Truly inspirational.

OH MY GOSH!! The before picture on her site look like my playroom / office!! I have given up on it to the point that I only go in there if I have to. I have not used my desk top computer in months because I have a problem getting to it… I now only use my laptop. 🙂

What a difference!! I wish I had a craft room!
Momma says
I want mine to look like that, without all the work! haha

Fabulous! I love the storage for everything with nothing out cluttering shelves. Love the labels!!!

That’s great!!

Lovely! Just what I needed to see! I’ve been scouring Craigslist for things to organize my (also walk in closet)-craft room. I need a plug in there, too, I’m always using the extension cord! I just measured it and measured all of the furniture, and I’m going to get organizing! I found some old wooden coke bottle crates (2 of them) to put baby food jars full of buttons & other goodies on. And I found a white pottery barn towel rack with a shelf that has cubbies (for all of my ribbons!) for only $10! And I found some containers to store my papers like yours! Yahoo! Can’t wait to get started! Thanks for the inspiration!! 🙂

It had been a while since I checked out your blog. What a perfect topic for me to jump in on! I also have a walk in closet that is waiting to be organized as a sewing room for me. Right now it is FULL of all the stuff that will eventually need to be organized in there, as well as other items that will need to be re-homed. I’m much more motivated after seeing this closet redo! Now, if I can just remember to take some before/during/after pictures. 🙂 Yippee!

WOW!! Now that is motivational! Way to go Yard Sale Princess (from a yard sale princess wannabe!) 🙂
That makes me want to get up and CLEAN! I just came to this site through a friend of mine, can’t wait to dig in more!

Excellent job!! Wow!

Nice job – looks like a lot of thought went into the way things were placed. I love seeing the bins and labels so things can be found when they are needed! It’s a concept I love to use everywhere and it is so nicely done here – congrats!
Courtney says
What a great use of Boxes and Bins to organize your craft closet! The before and after pics are incredible. I have utilized plastic storage bins and shelving units to organize my vast collection of scrapbooking supplies! Great Job!

Wow – what an amazing difference!
I really need to reorganize my craft room. It is a total disaster. I just keep shoving things in the drawers and it’s busting at the seams.
Erna says
Lovely! I’m hoping to do something like that in my basement when it is completed. :0)
Sarah says
I love this!! It is making me want to get my craft stuff in order!
Kelly says
Wow, if that doesn’t inspire, I don’t know what will!
Awesome job Yard Sale Princess!

Wow, that is amazing! I’ve been organizing things lately but forget to take pictures to share. Oh well, at least things are getting cleaned up here!
SupplyChick says
WOW! the colored paper organizer has me salivating! LOVE your site. I too am an organizing junkie, but for preofessionals and businesses. My organizational tolls tend to be pretty bland, but still very functional. Good job!
debi b says
That is FANTASTIC! And, exactly what I need to do.
Kayren says
She did a great job! What an adventure with all that electrical stuff along the way, too.

This looks amazing! What I would like to know though is how other moms KEEP the room looking this way. I always do a huge overhaul only to have hubby & my kids ruin it all. (None of them have the “Neat Gene”.) It’s impossible to keep them out unless I lock the room up and keep the key to myself. Help! I’d love to hear ideas.
Nicole says
I hate that this page is no longer accessible! She must have deleted her posts! SAD! That was so inspiring because I have a room to re-do. We just moved & a spare bedroom has turned into a free-for-all. I need it to be an office/bedroom/scrapbooking space! If you have any other inspirations that you know of, let me know!
Erin says
Yup, toss and run is my technique for organizing my craft closet. Good inspiration – when everything has a place, it’s so much faster and easier to clean up after myself – my downfall 😉
