I was so excited last week about your response to the menu planning template I created that I just had to do another one! Today I introduce to you my grocery list template. It’s just a simple straightforward list.
The method to my madness on this one, and why I didn’t add lines to each of the boxes, is that grocery lists (in my opinion) aren’t suppose to be neat. If I had added lines in, I would have been forced to write neatly on each of the lines and I just don’t have time for such silliness. So the boxes are wide open in order to make it as simple as possible to whip up a grocery list in no time flat.
Also a reader came up with a fantastic idea and created a grocery list envelope printable to share with us. Now you’ve got a grocery list and coupon holder in one. Brilliant! Click on the link below to print on a legal size envelope double sided.

I am so glad you put a reminder for recycled bags!! I forget everytime! Very frustrating!
Terry says
I really like this. Yesterday I was thinking as I was grocery shopping that it would be a much easier experience if I made my list into sections…a real timesaver. Thanks for sharing your template.
Lynette says
I like the sections and no lines, too.
I always put my recycle bags in the car when I am finished unloading them…then maybe I’ll at least see them and take them into the store…(I forget that sometimes, too!)

I love this template! I usually create a list with 5 categories: produce, meat, dairy, bread and misc…but the misc category is huge and all over the place. I end up running back and forth through the store to find everything. Your template breaks that one category into meaningful sub-categories that will make shopping much more efficient. Thank you!
Heather says
I love all of these templates! They are great! I always want to make my own but I never seem to get organized enough. These are just what I needed! Thanks for sharing!

LOVE IT. once again. you did awesome. Thanks for sharing.

I love how you have organized this list! I can’t wait to use. All of the lists I have seen seem to miss something or not flow how you would actually be in the store. Thanks again.
Unsinkable Kristen says
LOVE it. This is absolutely perfect for what I need. Thanks!!
Malina says
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for!
I loved your template from last week (the weekly menu planner). However, for me, the grocery list section wasn’t big enough so I was thinking of ways to create a separate grocery list. This is PERFECT!
Thank you so much for sharing all your FABULOUS ideas! It makes organizing FUN :)!
Elaine says
I like your template. While I usualy use lined sheets mine are not organized by anything other than the order in which I write something down – not very organized at all. The way you have this done the things that I will find together in the store, any store, will be together. =) Thanks, I’ll be printing this out and making many copies.
Barbara H. says
Thanks for those! I’ve been needing to make some kind of grocery list — too often I find out something else I needed just AFTER getting home from the store. I might try both yours and the Ultimate one to see which works best for me.
Contemplative Mom says
Thanks! This is great! I often try to organize my list by category, but always end up with a messy, hard-to-read list when I’m done.
Jenna says
Yay! Thanks! This template is fantastic!

I LOVE the packing checklist!!! Thank you!

LOVE IT!! Thank you for sharing with us!!

I love this template. It is so perfect for me. I sit and look through recipes and make a list from them and then when I get home and go to fix dinner I can’t remember the recipe or where I found it. Thank you this way exactly what I needed.
Erna says
What useful lists! It’s nice of you to share them. :0) I have a segmented shopping list in four categories (Produce, Dairy, Meats/Frozen, Aisles) but I like the further breakdown that you have. My hubby does the shopping but I’m the list maker. :0)

You rock!!
Kristin says
Amazing!!! I am very picky and have a hard time organizing somethings (I think I try to over-organize). This is perfect for me!!! THANK YOU!
Christy says
I too appreciate the recycled bag reminder. I have stored them in the closet by the back door, but out of sight, out of mind. I carried them around in the car for a while but they ended up everywhere. This grocery list will remind me to grab them from their space.
Karyn says
You are an angel to share. Blessings to you!

I love these we travel a lot and I’ve often thought I need a master list but never made one I would be so fraseled after laundry adn packing then the actually going that I would want to even think about a list for next time. Then next time would come and I would say why, why, why didn’t I do that list, and repeat the endless cycle. So thank you for doing my list for me I can assure you it will get used a lot.
Michelle says
thanks so much for this 😉

I love it! What a great time-saver for those of us who have to shop with 2-3 little ones tagging along. This makes it easier to get things by the aisle, plus when I take my older son along, he can use it like a Bingo board and X out each box as we complete it.
Cori says
Thank you so much for sharing! I love the way you organized your grocery list, what a time saver!

A coupon box! How wonderful!
Catharine says
wow so much better than my lined notebook paper….talk about an unorganized shopping list….this is going to help so much. No more forgetting and having to run back to get it. THANKS!!
gina says
thanks for the link to your family travel checklist – we’re leaving on friday so this was the exact thing i needed right now!
Mrs disorganised says
Thanks for the lists. As a very organised person on the inside trying desperately to break out of my extremely disorganised outside it all helps.
I have just flicked through quickly but on the travel list is there a mention of holiday insurance details? Just had a 2 week ski holiday worrying each time someone fell over about where our insurance papers where.
Karrisa says
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this template!!! I’ve always hated the kind with the lines to check off or try to squish in a number to indicate the quantity I need. I’ve just never had the creativity to make one of my own. Thank you!!!

Hello, Laura:
OML ~~ I didn’t think there was anyone else in the world more anal than I am!! It’s nice to know I have a few sisters out there!! I’ve been making lists since I was a kid. My mom thought it was hilarious and great at the same time. She’s a dyed-in-the-wool listmaker, too.
Thank you for the grocery templates. The most ultimate one looks too stark, needs some colour & clip-art. I like yours better. Too bad we couldn’t combine the two. Thanks, Laurie from Maple Ridge, BC CANADA
Gina says
You know I love this list–I share it with everyone! I passed it out at my MOMS Club last meeting, and everyone thought it was great. I’ve seen it up on several fridges around town. 🙂
Today I posted about using it to help you when shopping a special promo at an unfamiliar store (double coupons at one of our local stores). It really helps me stay organized!
Patricia says
Thanks for the grocery list templates, they’ll come in handy 😉
Kristen says
Thanks for the templates for both the Grocery List and the Menu Planner. I have never felt so empowered! I had a crock-pot meal started this morning and when 4:00 p.m. rolled around, I didn’t know what to do with myself! (Ordinarily I’d be trying to decide what to fix for dinner and panicking because I might not have the ingredients I needed.) I ended up playing with my 4 yr. old son during that time, which was a joy! I’m anxious to explore your recipes now. When I get better at this, I’ll send you some of mine.

This is awesome!!!

I love your lists! I printed them out so my husband can go to the store and not forget what he is supposed to buy (and to cut down unnecessary purchases).
Thank you!

Thanks so much for your template and the links to the grocery lists. This will help me so much!!! I usually panic when I get in the grocery store because there are so many choices, but this should make it easier. 🙂

I was looking for a way to better organize my grocery list so I don’t back track in the grocery store. This worked really well. I would like to rearrange the catagories so that they go in the same order as the isles in the store I shop in. How is that for anal?
Angel says
My mom made a list like this when I was growing up. She made it very specific to our family, printed it, and hung on it on the fridge. For years I have used that same list but changed to a lacto-vegeterian diet a couple of years ago. Needless to say, half of my mom’s list was not being used anymore. I was preparing to make my own when I found this website. THANK YOU!
@ Amy- I rearranged the list to fit my local grocery store layout too! =)
Tonya says
Sooo happy to find your website. I’ve always been made fun of by family because you can find two things on my fridge, my Excel created Grocery List, along with my monthly budget. In my house an unorganized house is an organized life.

I only just discoverd your blog today, and the menu planner with the added grocery list on the side is brilliant. Just what I need. Thank you. I’ll have a good look around – looks interesting!

I LOVE your reasoning for not adding lines! Not having to “conform” to a checklist is so FREEING! LoL THANK YOU!
Elaina says
Great template, I still love my lines. Be GREEN and print your menu on one side and grocery list on the other, or grocery on both sides if you don’t do menu’s (2 sheets will last the whole month):)

This was so helpful for me when going to the grocery store. To have everything organized is wonderful. I actually printed the Ultimate Shopping List and then printed the Vegetarian Shopping List on the back because I am vegetarian and my fiancee is not. This is a great tool. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing! I organize mine based on the isles and how they are laid out in my favorite grocery store…. also I wanted to mention for any iphone users there’s a GREAT free app called “Grocery IQ” that you can keep a running list on as you remember things that you want to get next time you are at the store. You can add prices so that you know how much your total will be when you check out, and it has a bar code scanner that puts all the info into your phone for non-generic items! I love it and it’s been a real time saver for me this year!

I have been food shopping for over 45 years and have always made a list. Unfortunately, my lists were not organized and often forgotten at home or in my purse. Your template is so much better and time saving. No longer will I be back tracking nor will I be distracted by “sale” items not on my list. I’m actually looking forward to grocery shopping!
Sis says
I’ve done another organizing trick with my list. It works great for me. The middle section of my template is my shopping list. At the top I have my menus for the week. For each meal I have a footnote and for the footnote I put the ingredients for that meal. Say the store is out or the price is too high for an item – I can easily see what else I can drop off the shopping list. During the week I can also glance thru the footnotes to see what items need to be used first so I don’t have as much spoilage.
Darla Douglas says
I’m still using this list! 9 years later!

Wow that’s awesome Darla!!!
