Empty that closet or cupboard!

in Monthly Round-up

Here we are almost nearing the end of the month and it’s time for a bit of a check up on everyone to see where you are at with organizing your cupboard or closet.   Now’s your opportunity to get it done and trust me it will take less time than you think it will.  You have no idea how many times I hear that after the fact and people are always surprised by it.

So if you haven’t started yet here’s the first step.  Go to the cupboard that you want to tackle and empty it.  As in take it all out.  You can do it.  DUMP it!  You have got to be able to see what you are dealing with.  Leaving it all in the cupboard means you will be organizing by way of the shuffling method.

Shuffling out.  Shuffling bad.   Remove, sort and purge, IN!

Don’t forget to take those before and after pictures and then come back here at the end of the month to enter Org Junkie’s Monthly Organizing Round-Up.   I will select one winner from the list of participants to win a copy of Professional Organizer Lea Schneider’s book, Growing Up Organized.  I’m reading it right now and it is just awesome for teaching your kids how to be more organized.  Everything you wanted to know about kids and organizing is in this mom-to-mom guide.   I’ll be sharing some of Lea’s tips with you over the next couple of weeks.

Now go part with something, you’ll be glad you did!!

And wait till you see the closet overhaul I’m going to show you tomorrow.  Talk about motivation!

An organized cupboard/pantry is the heart of an efficient operating kitchen!

I had a screaming headache yesterday and I still managed to clear out FOUR kitchen cabinets that were just full of who-knows-what. For me this is huge! Now I can actually put some of the small appliances cluttering my counter away!

My main project for after this semester is over (I work full time in academia, and take classes, so my world is organized by semesters) is to clean out the entire HUGE cabinet that is under the island in my kitchen. It is 4 different cabinets, but they are all connected. Organization, here we come!

That was a GREAT teaser – I’ll be back tomorrow to see it! :) And I had completely forgotten about that… now to go pick a cupboard.

I have been following your blog sporadically lately (I have been doing everything sporadically lately – life keeps catching up with me, lol), so I must have missed the original post! But I just have to say – you are such an inspiration to organization and cleanliness! My house is such a disaster right now (we have had 11 people in our house for almost 4 months, 5 will move out this weekend) – when my company is gone I so plan on following your challenges and getting my home in order!

I just found this site about 5 minutes ago and I am in LOOOOOOOVE! I’ve always secretly wanted to be a professional organizer, but there are areas of my house that need some inspiration. I just cleaned out my 3-year-old’s closet this morning and found several items I thought I had lost in our move a year ago. I will definitely be adding a link to your page on my blog! Thank you so much.

I’m right in the middle, or actually beginning of a major redo of my playroom/office. I’m scouring your site and readers sites for ideas. The project has gone from simple paint and organize to demolition and drywall but I can’t wait to get to it all done. Your site is such an inspiration!!

Instead of a closet or cupboard, I have been working (slowly) on getting my 1 yr old’s room cleaned out so his sis can be put in with him. He’s in a crib right now but will soon be ready for a toddler bed. There’s quite a few bags of clothes (some I need to sell NOW on Craig’s List, the rest in July/August) and some boxes of dvds and cds, clothes o n top of the dresser. We thought we were going to be moving soon, but that fell through, so now we have to deal with the apartment we’re in.

My challenge for this weekend is to get the room completely organized and cleaned (dusted and vacuumed too) and hopefully get sis moved in there.

I did several cupboards in the kitchen. I am very excited that they are disinfected, purged and they make more sense in the layout too!

A few a day lets my sanity stay.
