oooo, i know how you feel, but I think i used to do that to my mum too…isnt it nice we have lovely containers to put the left overs in… I think we used to open 2 or 3 peanut butter jars at the same time and or 2 or 3 of the same cereal and half would be left in the older one cause it was not as crunchy as the new box…have fun organizing them :)

Shelby does that all the time with chips. She’ll leave the broken chips in one bag and open another. Then she has a fit if I combine the 2 bags!

omg… this made me laugh out loud! thanks! :)
my husband is exactly like you, he just goes mental, and I just find it amusing!

That soooo bothers my Hubs, too! That mostly happens in our house with girl scout cookies.

There will already be a package open in the living room and I’ll open another package in the kitchen.

    Oooops!

Every once in a while, we have “potluck pasta” which involves mixing together all the 1/3 full bottles of pasta sauce in the fridge and topping our noodles with that. I’ve been known to be able to get rid of 4 glass jars at a time using this technique.

And don’t get me started on cereal. I recently bought four boxes of a fave because they were a great deal, and THREE are currently open. Gah!!!

Oh, that drives my bonkers, too! Absolutely, positively bonkers!

Yes!! My husband had 3 bags of chips open the other day. I said to him, “Why don’t you finish these two off?”
    “They are too small.”
“Then mix them with melted cheese or something.”
    “It’s not the same.”

I just ended up combining them. Oh well. We just got married, so we have 2 of everything around here. Most of the items are too full to combine. So instead they sit and mock me. LOL.

oh, good. I’m not the only one with that problem. :) Drives me NUTS!

Well at least they look neat and tidy with the bag clips. Mine just crunch up the tops of the bags and then shove them where they can into the cupboard.

I completely agree!!! For me though it is more a matter of limited clips for holding the bags closed. If 2 bags are open, I need to use an extra chip clip… and I’m stingy with what I use those on… there are never enough… but I don’t want to store more of them either!

  11. Posted January 11, 2008 at 3:41 pm | Permalink

Oh yes I totally I agree!!

  12. Posted January 11, 2008 at 4:04 pm | Permalink

I sooooo agree with you…….and it makes it worse to not have all of the air out of the bag! :D I am enjoying your blog.

  13. Posted January 11, 2008 at 4:25 pm | Permalink

Yep. They’re messing with your mind.

  14. Posted January 11, 2008 at 5:19 pm | Permalink

They are plotting and planning thinking, “Mua ha ha ha, this will get under Mom’s skin!” LOL
‘Cause I know that’s what mine do when they leave boxes of almost gone cereal in the cabinet instead of using them or throwing them out.

  15. Posted January 11, 2008 at 8:36 pm | Permalink

That is soo funny. I am the same way!

    I completely understand.

So glad to see that it isn’t just me! THIS DRIVES ME INSANE!!

I would just combine them… if they complain tell them you won’t do it anymore if they take the extra 10 seconds to LOOK before the open a new bag. If they really put up a stink (or you don’t like to combine), you can use one chip clip for two bags. Then hopefully they’ll both get used before a 3rd bag is open…

This makes me smile ! That would drive me NUTS too !

I know how you feel. My husband does this not with food but with medicine, shampoo, and stuff like that.

  21. Posted January 12, 2008 at 12:34 am | Permalink

Laura, that annoys me, too! I usually just throw away the bag when it’s that empty, or open up the new bag and pour the rest of the old bag in there, ya know?

  22. Posted January 12, 2008 at 1:12 am | Permalink

Hi Laura! That is so funny - because today I went thru my cupboard and combined cereal, etc. So annoying for sure.
Hope you are doing great - and your family!

I’m with ya, Sister! That and cereal boxes! Why won’t anybody eat the last little half bowl of cereal? They leave the box in there, I make my grocery list thinking it’s got plenty in it, and then they complain that there’s “nothing” to eat! Well, hello? :)

  24. Posted January 12, 2008 at 5:57 am | Permalink

Me too! Also with the sleeves of crackers and such. How annoying is that.

  25. Posted January 12, 2008 at 5:51 pm | Permalink

I have a similar pet peeve. Ending up with duplicates in the pantry. You know, like having two jars of Pace mild salsa at the same time. It doesn’t help that there is also a jar of hot salsa in there and in the fridge is an open jar of mild salsa and an open jar of medium salsa. Can you tell we like salsa? ;) I wouldn’t mind about the extra salsa in the pantry except that my pantry space is limited.

My other pet peeve is when someone leaves a half full bag of chips open on the counter to get stale. Now that one REALLY bugs me!! =)

Madison did the same thing this morning with pop tarts…knowing she will only eat one…and Miller was eating one..she opened another one…aghhhhhh…out come the baggies.

woops sent before I was finished, lol. u must be able to see my kitchen counter. more than chips is the crackers thing..I guess we are just sooo rich we can just throw it away and buy more,LOL..

  29. Posted January 13, 2008 at 3:07 am | Permalink

At least there was something IN the bags..cannot tell you how many times I go to get something and it is EMPTY..that is my pet peeve!

  30. Posted January 13, 2008 at 3:16 pm | Permalink

My first thought was…oh, look now nicely they are clipped together…or did you do that? I think this happens in every household. I like to put additional chip bags in a bin in the garage….and then bring one out when the other is completely gone..same with doubles of other snacks and such. It works for us.

  31. Posted January 13, 2008 at 9:18 pm | Permalink

I would be thrilled if mine were clipped. They are usually ripped open and spilled all over the pantry floor.

  32. Posted January 13, 2008 at 10:56 pm | Permalink

OMG- I was just saying the same thing to myself when I saw two bags of Scoops open!

P.S.- want to see a neat trick to help with closing chip bags when you have no clip- (which BTW we end up buying EVERY STINKIN SUMMER WHEN WE GO ON VACATION-well not any more!!!)-

p.s. I’m gonna use this on my Works for Me Wednesday post this week! I bet others will love it too!!

  33. Posted January 14, 2008 at 1:24 am | Permalink

Hey- at least the chip clips are on there. That’s a start!

  34. Posted January 15, 2008 at 3:40 am | Permalink

Ditto PPs, combine the bags! They appear to be 2 similar or identical chips. Or better yet, get your fab self some of those Tupperware Modular Mates I was telling you about, and dump your chips in these as soon as they have been opened.

  35. Posted January 18, 2008 at 4:21 am | Permalink

Have they been to my house? Because I have two bags of nacho chips opened and everyone at my house says they didn’t do it.
