Storage Star is a little award I’ve created to give away to those who creatively find ways to store or contain something. Most of us have limited space we are trying to maximize and often it takes a little creativity to come up with a solution that does just that. I’ll be keeping my eyes open throughout blogland for all types of storage solutions that you, my readers, have put into place. I’m looking for posts with pictures that I can highlight on my blog and of course link back to you.
As all of you know containerizing is my favorite part of the organizing PROCESS and I want to honor all of you who are getting yourselves organized and would like to show off what you’ve come up with. Plus it gives me a little “fix”….oh, right, this isn’t about me, forget I just said that 🙂 If you do or see a post like this in the blogosphere that you think I’d be interested in please by all means feel free to email me.
So today I’d like to introduce you to my very first Storage Star. Have you heard of the pegboard? Most often you see these used in garages or workshops for tools. Well Kim over at Creative Blogs uses them in her craft space for her scrapbooking supplies. Very, very clever! Take a look at this:
Now that definitely says Storage Star to me and not just because she said really nice things about me either….lol…..although that totally helps. Just kidding! Kim is in the middle of organizing her craft room and you can see her before picture here and her half way done pictures here. Looks like she has a lot of great ideas so be sure to head on over and take a look at all her great pictures.
This idea really got me thinking about some other ways we could use the pegboard as well. For instance I was thinking it would be great in my daughter’s room to hold all her hair elastics and headbands. Plus you can purchase baskets and things that clip onto the pegboard, from what I can see here, that would be ideal in my son’s room for his Pokemon and hockey cards. I also found, on the Martha Stewart website, an idea for hanging a pegboard in your closet to hold purses and belts. Love it!
I so want to hear your feedback on what you think of this idea. Also let me know if you are already using this creative idea yourself.
Thanks everyone and don’t forget to head on over and congratulate Kim!
Who will be my next Storage Star? It could be YOU!

That’s fantastic! I love how she did that!

Pegboard is so versatile, isn’t it? At our old house, we had next to no cupboard space, so I had nowhere to store my pots and pans. They aren’t pretty enough for a pot rack hanging from the ceiling! But I had the hubby hang up a piece of pegboard on the back wall of stairwell leading to the basement. It was otherwise wasted space, and it wasn’t like we had a finished basement so no one else ever had to see it. And it was incredibly convenient as the stairway door was right off the kitchen. Yep, I’m a fan of pegboard.

I remember when I was little we had apeg board in the kitchen to hold most of the cooking utensils!!

Yup, a fan of peg board here as well. I put one on the inside of my son’s closet, (I put a few furring strips behind it so it would stand off the wall a bit – for bigger hooks) I used bigger hooks and I store all of his “long” stuff on it, like his toy chain saw, blower, weed-eater, jack hammer, bow and arrow, etc.. Um, yes, he is all boy, at 6, and I presume he will be a worker when he grows up. lol

This is fabulous – I used to have sewing where I now scrapbook and the pegboard is already there, empty. I’ll be using this one for sure. Thanks!

I use my pegboard for all my sewing supplies -pic on my Sept 4th blog post – and my girlfriend has a pegboard on the wall inside a closet in her kitchen for all her pots and pans!

Love the idea of using pegboard in a craft area! Well done indeed.

Yes, pegboard rocks! I have 2 walls of my craft room and created a “door” to cover my steps of pegboard on hinges to conceal the stuff stored on the attic steps and organize my kits and whatnot. It’s so much easier to be creative when you don’t have to dig through everything to find what you’re looking for. Kudos to Kim – great minds think alike. 🙂

Thank you so much! And thanks for posting my mess! LOL! We’ve all been there, especially if we’re creative, right?

I used to work in a scrap store & that’s what we used for hanging just about everything – love it! When I grow up and have a scrap room of my own I want to do the same thing.
I like the purses & belts idea and the ideas for your kids’ rooms too. I’ve decided that in the new house the shed will have a pegboard for my hubby’s tools that hangs up with 4 screws rather than 20 screws like there is left for me to take out.
Love the new Storage Star posts & I’ll be sending you photos as I creatively store into our new house. 🙂

I love the pegboard idea. We are in the processing of creating a craft room here, so I’ll definitely have to keep that in mind!
By the way, thanks for being such a great friend.

I love your blog. It’s so…. organized! I’m very, very organized, but I’ve realized there is a difference between being organized and disciplined. I find a lot of people ASSUME I’m disciplined because I’m so organized. Unfortunately, that’s not so. What’s your take on that?
By the way, thanks for commenting on my blog (again). It’s always nice to have someone “show their face” every once in a while!

Okay…. I love being organized but somewhere my motivation has fallen through the cracks. I need to visit here often to feel convicted!! LOL!!

What a great idea!!!! Since I’m remodeling and redecorating my whole house I’ll look for pegboards next time I go to town. I think that would be the perfect thing for my kids this&thats.

What a great idea! Storing vertically would save such a great aount of space!

Congratulations to Kim 🙂
What a neat idea, I think this would work pretty much anywhere in the house and could even get cut down to smaller sizes for smaller areas.

Real Simple did a feature on pegboard for organization a couple months back. Check out their website (realsimple.com) for more info and photo ideas.

I do *love* pegboards. I have one in my craft room, and I just put one in my laundry room. Next rooms to receive them are the kiddos’ rooms. Maybe I’ll do an “ode to pegboard” post this week . . .

Thanks to justbeachy for the idea about peg board and long toys…I’ve been looking for a way to store (many, many) lightsabers! Love the new button!

The Storage Star should goto the Spectamax!
I am a writer who writes on all things automobiles, and found your great site. I thought you would like to know about a product I recently incorporated into a recent article on Car Show Preparation I wrote, and it is about the Spectamax sticker holder. This is a box that you suction cup to your windshield and it holds 8 stickers that you would normally attach to your windshield. You can easily switch to whatever sticker you need to show at a particular time. As a judge for car shows, I judge based on appearance of the car, and an organized car scores more points. This includes stickers any kind, aftermarket, or OEM) and how they have been placed. The Spectamax sticker holder takes this out of my equation because the car owner can put the stickers away for the show. Not to mention the privacy concerns with showing all the spectators that you have a parking permit for “Lakeview Court” and allowing a thief to know where you keep the car.
Thanks~!

when we used to use our back door to enter our house, I had one over the “doorway” my bil created for our furnace (and he never covered it….left with empty promises).
Well, I was tired of looking at this gaping hole in my wall, so I put a pegboard on hinges complete with a sliding bolt lock to keep it closed. I bought the little peg hooks and used it to hold the kids bookbags & coats.
We don’t use it for this purpose anymore, because I needed room for the kids’ shoes, and 2 baskets (thanks again for the ideas), but I am currently thinking of a way to start reusing this space.
The only drawbacks: it is close to the ground, so I have to be careful what is stored here so the little ones don’t get hurt (so no tools) and the walkway is very narrow (it’s in the hall where my washer & dryer are, with the master bedroom at the end and bathroom right next door) so, it won’t take anything that will hang too far off of it.
