This is so sad. The other day when I was organizing the kid’s rooms I realized I needed a small bookcase or something to contain some books in the closet of my baby’s room. Because I wanted to keep these books in the closet out of the way of potentially tearing book hands I needed something that would fit a small space. I went through every room of the house searching and searching figuring I must already own something I could use for this purpose. It didn’t have to be fancy, afterall it was just for the closet. I searched the top two floors with no luck and then made my way to the basement. Nothing anywhere…..until my eyes slowly rested on this:
My container for my containers. NOOOOOOO, not that! Anything but that. My rational side realized that two of these cubes would be the perfect size for what I needed in my son’s room. My irrational side realized that this would only leave me with two cubes for my containers which looking at this picture it might seem that that would be enough. However I now have many more “just in case” baskets than this and clearly they need to have a home. Somewhere special where they wait patiently for me, hoping each day as I pass by on the way to the laundry room that today is the day they get to be put to good use.
I stared and stared at these cubes as I fought my internal dialogue and you know what?
I COULDN’T DO IT!
I simply couldn’t have my containers just shoved in a corner neglected. And so it has come to this….I have put the needs of my containers ahead of my son’s.
If that doesn’t scream “intervention”, I don’t know what does 🙂

Hehe too funny! I agree, you can’t have your containers shoved in a corner…it just wouldn’t be right!

Nobody puts Baby, I mean My Containers, in a corner!

Step away from the cube unit–hands up high where we can see them!! Now–exhale; inhale; exhale; inhale. Grab large laundry basket. Temporarily repurpose it to containerize containers. Put shelf unit in closet and load with the books. Begin watching yard sales, curbs and dumpsters for a suitable “permanent shelf unit.”
You absolutely make me laugh!!!!

I am so glad I found your site. I thought I was the only person with an addiction to containers!! My husband actually makes fun of me b/c of all the containers that I have – but reading this post I realized I don’t have anything to contain my containers! They are just put up in different places of my house if they aren’t being used. That’s what I need to get now – a container for all my unused containers!!

LOL! You could always do what I seem to end up doing and look for a large box or other “something” to use instead!!
Maybe I need a container for my containers… um..I mean empty boxes. 🙂

Maybe I can leave a better comment when I finally stop laughing…but that might not be for some time yet!

Containers are our friends.

You are so funny. I love the idea for a place for your containers. I too love containers, but don’t have a problem stacking them together on a shelf in the garage waiting for me to use them, as long as I know where they are. which i usually don’t because my garage along with my house is a well used disorganized home that homes 7 crazy kids. 🙂
good luck.

You crack me up! But I agree – it makes no sense to DISorganize your containers, in order to ORganize something else.
Carry on.

I just stumbled upon your blog frommm… Not sure. BUT… I am so glad I have found you. I often contend that I am “organizationally challenged” as I come from a long line of creative, disorganized women. Though, oddly, I am addicted to containers, office supplies and hooks. It can’t be said that I don’t TRY to be organized. I just can’t stay organized. I’ll be visiting your blog often to get your fabulous tips!
Cheers!

I don’t feel so bad for my shelf that holds my containers now. You have a container for containers! I keep baskets, pretty boxes and plastic bins on a shelf in a spare closet for use whenever I need to organize or store something.

Teeeheee!! Don’t worry, I want to get one too!
