Closet cubbies and shelves that make me very very happy!

When I was visiting my sister I gave her an early birthday gift.

Nothing says happy birthday better than brand new shelves to organize your front closet! Isn’t that something you’ve always wanted for your birthday? lol

I LOVE these cubbies and shoe stackers!! Look at how much room they create. I even have one in my own front closet if you remember. To do my sister’s closet I purchased two of the 3 shelf cubbie organizers and 2 of the shoe rack organizers. Walmart had the best prices and I was able to get all four for $55.00. The baskets we got from the dollar store although Closetmaid (who makes these shelves) has the most awesome fabric drawers to go with these cubbies that are just perfect. Unfortunately they are also really expensive at $7.00 each so we settled for the $1.00 baskets instead. I think my sister was most excited to finally have somewhere for her purse and a I’m outta here shelf! There is even a basket for ball caps and winter hats and mitts.

I loved how this looked so much that I thought they should just take the door off or at least leave the door opened on a permanent basis so we could just sit and stare at it lovingly for hours on end. Yeah funny thing, they didn’t think that was such a great idea which is so totally weird but whatever!

This may be just what I’m looking for for my entry closet as well as for Flicka’s “closet crisis” I emailed you about before. Hmmm…

Laura,

It is so true I love it. It is a system that works for both my husband and I. It is simply amazing how much more room we found in the closet. I am thinking that I am going to do the other closests in my house as I get the money. LOVE IT and thanks again Laura.

Wish someone would give that for MY birthday!!! Much nicer than, say, a sweater!

That closet looks great!

I finally got around to my son’s closet & our bedroom closets as well (two tiny ones). And I completely forgot to take pictures – sorry. I would be all over some of those organizers but just found out we have to move so I’ll wait until I have new closets & cabinets to complain about before I organize. For now I’m working on purging so I don’t have so many boxes to unpack.

I am going to have to do this to my entry closet as well. I think it would perfect especially for the shoes. With 3 kids there are always shoes laying around the door and they need to find a home. Thanks!

We are revamping our front closet, too, to make it more kid accesible. It’s not going to be nearly that pretty, though.

My birthday is in 2 months…coming to Oregon?

I need to build a closest. We only have closest in the bedroom (don’t like that about this house…I miss having a hall closest).

Love Love the closet. I have been trying to figure out what would work for my front closet and this looks perfect. My question is though.. what do you do with all those wet boots and hats and gloves that come in without just leaving them in the entry way til they dry?

GREAT CLOSET!!

Wow that looks great! My front closet is a nightmare! Right now I am imagining mine looking as beautiful as your creation! I think that I am going to have to go out and invest in the same things. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Angie,
Good question. I have a boot tray by my front door where the boots and things are left until they dry and then we put them away (you can just see the corner of it in the picture of my front door). You’ll notice though that in my sister’s closet we moved the boot tray to the first shelf to keep the boots out of the way. My sister may choose to leave it there or bring it down at winter time and put it by her door.
Sorry I don’t have a better solution for you.
I do love my little hat and mitt hanger that sits on my floor by the door to dry things out.

Thanks for the tips Laura! I live in South Dakota so yano it is ALWAYS winter or so it seems. Not so much like Canada I know but it still gets that bitter cold here. I just hate to walk in the house and trip over 3 different pairs of boots. I will get a boot mat and train those kids to put them there :) I love your sight! I will be heading out to Walmart to pick up those shelves and cubbies for the front closet – ours has always been a sore spot for me :)

What a great sister you are! Wanna come over and do mine? I have piles of maternity clothes, too-big-for-me clothes and too-small-for-me clothes. That’s what having a baby will do! I have no time to sort it and probably won’t for a decade…

I love those dollar store baskets! I bought at least 20 of them at Dollar Tree over over the past few months, and they’re all in heavy rotation!

You’re an inspiration, I tell ya, an inspiration!

OOH…I just bought the 3 shelf cubbies at Wal-Mart. I put them in my sewing room and am now going to but a set or two each payday until I can get my sewing room and closets organized. I was really impressed with how easy they were to put together. I also saw that TARGET has the wire, design your own, type cubicles for a little less. (Sorry, I don’t know a better way to describe them.) I don’t think they would be as sturdy, however. This is what I have in my girls closet and it is fine for stacking clothes on. They each have a shirt and bottoms cubby.

The closet looks GREAT!

My Birthday is in 2 months… if you should feel compelled to knock on my door and reorganize for me, I wouldn’t complain one bit. ;)

Oh my gosh I love this. I just had my birthday. So if you would like to come do that as a belated gift. You are welcome too.
Are those the wooden shelfs? They are not assembled when you buy them?
Thank you for all the help.

Yes that’s right Laurie. Made of wood and they do require some assembly but my sister and I managed to it pretty quick. It wasn’t too bad.
