I LOVE to read magazines and often I find an article of interest that I want to keep to refer to later on. I might find a great kid’s craft, a health article, a cleaning tip, etc.. Rather than keep the whole magazine I rip out the page I want to keep, throw or give away the magazine and then quickly file the page into my “great magazine reads” organizing holder that looks like this:
This little container holds letter size hanging files and I’ve labelled them according to category…ie: crafts, kids stuff, health..etc. I keep it in my study on a bookshelf and it is quick and easy to drop articles into. Now whenever I need an article I know I’ve read, I don’t have to search very far because I have them all in one place. It really does work for me! The trick here though is that this is the only spot I have for miscellaneous articles so once its full I need to go through and purge some out. It is my designated space!

What a great idea! I have so many cooking magazines just stacking up. I should do the same pulling out the recipes I will use. Thanks for the tip!

I have something similar…one of those “Show Off” clear file folder totes.
In it I’ve got 4-5 “subject” folders for sorting the articles the first time around (like craft ideas, home decorating, parenting, etc). Then, I have a set of 12 folders one for each month.
The seasonal-type ideas goes in the appropriate month folder and each month I scan each subject folder and pull out what might be interesting over the next few months to try and put it in a month folder.
Then, each month I pull that folder and I have 4-5 ideas to try. If there are too many than I can manage for some reason, I just re-file to try another time!
Sounds complicated written out like this but this way I actually *use* the ideas I keep saving!

I used to do that and forgot all about it! Thanks for reminding me, I will have to go check out the ones I have and start organizing new ones again!

I’m starting to scan everything now. It’s much easier. Even things like maps to my doctors office they mail out and everything. Easier to keep in one place, just keep my computer backed up.
I’m even in the process of scanning all my childhood pics (my mom took trillions) and then boxing the origionals up so that I can still view them without lugging those trillions of albums out!
If I were a scrapbooker I would SO be into digital scrapbooking!

What a great idea! I do the same thing with magazines, but haven’t ever dedicated a space to them. So I have pages just floating around with the rest of my paperwork. Thanks for the great idea!

I do the same thing – I keep them in my filing cabinet. It has come in very handy.

What a great idea! My hubby goes nuts because I have stacks of mags laying around that there is an article or something I want to keep! Now why didn’t I think of this??

I too pull out the articles, but sadly mine are VERY unorganized. They are piled in a box. This is a great idea, and I happen to hace a spare file like this…weekend project perhaps? LOL:-)

Now this is something that I’ve always thought about doing, but never have! Thanks for the reminder!

I’ve been clipping magazine articles since the 70s and one of my favorite things to do on Winter evenings is to pull out a file at a time and read old favorites.
It’s like compiling your own favorite magazine!
I love the idea about putting all of the files in their own file container, never thought of that. Mine are in “my” file drawer in the family’s big file cabinet.

I loved this idea! I’ve pulled magazine articles forever, but tend to put them in my regular files. Having one separate bin for magazine articles is a great idea – thanks 🙂

A fabulous idea. I put most of mine into a binder and into sheet protectors (or whatever they’re called) but haven’t gone through them in a while.

I love this idea. Especially the part about when it’s full, you gotta purge because this is the only allotted space! 🙂
