I got my pictures back!

Updated: Okay upon further inspection of my pictures from Save On, as I was putting them into the albums, I realized I’m only about 75% happy with the quality. I’m happy they didn’t have the green hue but many of the pictures were still way too dark for my liking which means I’m trying Future Shop next.

I’m so proud of my daughter, yesterday she placed 1st in the piano festival….very exciting!! The piano festival takes place in the next town over (about 45 minutes away) and so while there I was able to stop in and pick up my Save On pictures. I was pretty worried about it…it has been awhile since I actually liked the pictures I had printed anywhere. So with my breath held, I slowly opened the package of pictures and was…..pleasantly surprised! Whew, the color was good! No green hue anywhere (my biggest pet peeve) which was amazing. Overall I was pretty pleased. The only thing that threw me was the fact that they come smaller (4 x 5.3) so as not to have any portion of my picture cut off which is I guess what happens with the 4 x 6 size and digital pictures.

I was asked about what I do with all these pictures once I get them printed. Well if there is one thing scrapbooking taught me (and yes I’ve still given it up) is that I missed using photo albums. I missed just being able to slide my pictures in without having to worry about what paper matched the colors in the picture or what stickers tied the whole thing together. I missed how easy (and mindless) it is to just sit in front of the TV and quickly put the pictures into their new home. Oh yes, I’ve definitely missed the simplicity of photo albums and I do enjoy looking back through them (even without all the costly embellishments!) and my kids do too. I keep the albums on a low shelf in my study so they can access them at any time. I always use the same kind of photo album as well…the type that holds 2 4×6 pictures per page and has the strip in the middle which I used to use to store the negatives but now use for captions (although I still like to write the date and event on the back of the pictures).

So that is what I’ll be doing over the next couple of days….putting all 400+ pictures into my photo albums and then it’s back to the computer to upload the next 8 months! Although there shouldn’t be as many pictures in the next batch because as soon as the baby figured out that he could move well that was it for ever trying to get a half decent picture of him again!

Now that I’ve conquered my fear of starting the pictures, and have the momentum going, I don’t want to stop until it is done! I’m on a roll as they say.

Thanks again for all the encouragement and suggestions!

    Congratulations to your daughter!!
And I totally agree about scrapbooking. I would love to do it, but I NEED to at least get things in regular photo albums. That’s one of our favorite activities..to look at old photos. Congrats on getting your photos all back!

I appreciate your thoughts about photo albums vs. scrapbooking. Although I don’t down anyone for scrapbooking, I think the thought of simple photo albums are lovely, and sure cost a whole lot less to store your photos! I have a lot of photos that I have been “waiting” until I have time to scrapbook them (a hobby I never really started). Simple will be better for me, and I can use my scrapbook materials to make cards, which I enjoy more.

    Congrats on getting good pictures!!
I do both scrapbooking and photo albums. I pull a few that I think would look nice scrapped and the rest go into albums (or should be in albums. Like I’ve said, I’m lacking there too). Way to go :)

Laura, I love scrapbooking, but am thinking that since I am so far behind, that it would be a good idea to have albums of pictures to use as I am scrapbooking. Where did you get your albums? Are they safe for the pictures? Thanks in advance for the great info!

Thanks you guys for your comments. Please know that I am not against scrapbooking, it just wasn’t something for me.
Emmyjmommy that is a great question about my albums. I purchased them quite some time ago and have taken the plastic cover off so now I can’t double check to be sure about them being safe for pictures. I purchased them from Wal*mart so will have to take a look next time I’m in the store.

    HI Laura
Just thought I’d let you know you can have the pictures delivered to Overwaitea from the Save-on website as well. Just in case your not planning a trip to Terrace.

I used to be an avid scrapbooker but ran out of time and money for all the supplies and such. I’d still like to do some pages now and then, but frankly, it’ll be a while. For now I’ve done as you did…I found some cute archival quality photo books and I’m hoping to get all the pix I currently have into them.
AND to get the dozen rolls or so of film still sitting here developed. Yay.

good for you! I don’t think I’ll ever give up scrapbooking, but I get jazzed just knowing that other people aren’t leaving their pics in shoeboxes or on their hard drives. I’m glad you found a place that pleases you! Grats.

    Oh, almost forgot…

Creative Memories does have just a plain-ol’ sleeve album now too. They’re a touch on the spendy side, but they are lovely. They’re also covered by a lifetime warranty, which is nice. In case anyone wants to know. :) PicFolio Albums

Isn’t it funny how, once you’ve become a scrapbooker, you cringe at the thought of these simple albums. Honestly, I should do this.

I have eighteen clear plastic shoeboxes, neatly organized on a bookshelf, that I sort photos into, by category. And there they sit because although they’re neat and orderly and I can find any photo in a heartbeat, I’m not scrapbooking lately.

I think I may do this, too. I’d rather have them in albums where I can sit and look at them than hidden away in their nice tidy shoeboxes. It’s certainly easy enough to take them out of the albums if I want to scrapbook again.

    Brilliant, Laura!

Have you considered photo boxes. They hold huge numbers of photos and they come with dividers, so you can label them or put them in various categories.

    Hi there organized lady,
In the long run photo boxes would probably take up less room but I wouldn’t trust the kids to keep them in order when they pulled them out to look at, not to mention all the fingerprints on them.

I’m so glad they turned out well. I need to get myself motivated and order some of mine. I’m caught in between the world of scrapbooking and photo albums, so all the pictures are in storage boxes. I need to either do some serious scrapbooking or buy some simple albums!

    Have a good weekend.

    Hi Laura –
Did the amount of pictures just cause you to go back to the photo albums? All my pictures have been accumelating just because I haven’t wanted to swallow my pride and just slip those pics into a photo album. I wanted to do a scrapbook (for DearDaughter’s pics), but have wondered when I will actually have the time to work on it. Ahh, I’m interested to know what caused you to decide on the photo albums and if you’re satisfied with your decision.

Anyway, your “action” to conquer this photo challenge is very inspiring. Thanks so much!!!

why did you give up scrapbooking? Is there a blog post about this? I need to search your archive and see if there is – the idea of that fascinates me!

I’m a scrapper as well and fantasize all the time about plain photo albums. :)

I appreciate these photo album thoughts, too. I think I might just go out and buy one!! I enjoy(ed) scrapbooking, but I don’t have the time at the moment. I think I would still like to keep some, but I haven’t done it and the result is just nothing. The pictures are on my computer. I do print some out every so often and they are in a drawer :)
