Tackle it Tuesday - Operation Christmas Child

Hello! My Tackle It Tuesday project for today is one the kids and I participate in every year. We are filling our Operation Christmas Child boxes that will then be sent overseas for children living in countries that have been ravaged by war, famine, extreme poverty, disease, or natural disaster. Our church provides us with the boxes and we fill them with all sorts of gifts and supplies.

My daughter is filling one with gifts for a girl between the ages of 10-14 and my son is filling one for a boy between the ages of 5-9 years old. This is such an amazing project and really gives my kids an opportunity to know they can make a difference in the life of another child their age. They have been putting aside some of their allowance each week so that they can purchase these gifts themselves.

The power of a simple gift at Christmas.

I know many of you and your families are also participating in this worthwhile project but for those that haven’t heard of it and want more information on how to get involved go here if you live in Canada or here if you live in the US.

To see what others are tackling head on over to 5 minutes for mom.

We do this project also and our class tries to do a mexican family or a family local also….this is the spirit of giving….me and some of my friends are going down to Martha’s Vineyard to help with cooking for the Thanksgiving holidays….I just love volunteering this time of year.

I have never heard of this project before - though we do do somethings with our church that are similar - I am going to have to look into this one! Simply amazing! Good job!

Our tackle this week is not nearly as “giving” though it did give alot to Chubbers LOL

I absolutely love this charity…such a great thing! I’m hoping our church will do this so we can participate through them. We are also going to get a couple of angels off of the angel tree at the mall and have the kids chip in some of their allowance money to help buy gifts. It hurts my heart to think of all of the children who will receive nothing for Christmas!

We’ve done this for the past couple of years. It’s a great project and a nice way to introduce kids to the concept of compassion and giving.

We’re doing this too. We haven’t received the boxes from our church yet, but I have three little baskets that I have been filling up over the past couple of weeks with great finds. We’ll be doing a girl 10-14, and a girl and boy 5-9. Then we shall see what is left!

That’s just AWESOME, I’ve never heard of that kind of project over here actually, but I’ll have to do a research about it now!

I’m all new to this tackle-thing, but find it very useful!

If you’re interested in a blogroll for Tackle It Tuesday, come by and grasp it :-)

Our church in TN always did shoeboxs! I think it is a wonderful tackle for children to take on! Good work!

I love this ministry! I’ve done it with the kids each year since they were little! I used to take them one at a time and shop with just the one for their particular box. It was a special mommy/child thing to do.

What a wonderful way to teach your children how a small gesture on their part can make a big difference to a less fortunate child. This is wonderful.
